UPMC in North Central Pa. Celebrates 5,000 Surgeries With Robot
Williamsport, Pa., January 3, 2025 – UPMC Williamsport recently celebrated its 5,000th surgery using da Vinci Surgical System, a soft tissue robot for minimally invasive procedures for services including; gynecology, urology, general and acute care surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, orthopaedics, and pulmonology. Robotics systems like da Vinci enhance a surgeon’s ability to perform complex procedures with improved visualization and dexterity and because they’re minimally invasive, are less traumatic on the patient helping reduce recovery time, scarring, and surgical site pain.
The da Vinci System, which came to UPMC Williamsport in 2011, is one of three robotic surgery systems offered at UPMC Williamsport, including Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy for lung biopsy and VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for total knee replacement.
