For the second consecutive season, seniors Livingston Cross of Union, New Jersey, and Gavin Barrett of Roselle, New Jersey, were awarded UE first-team honors on Wednesday. Barrett became the first Wildcat in the NCAA era to earn three all-conference selections, and the Barrett-Cross duo are the first back-to-back first-team selections since Penn College became a member of the NCAA in 2014.
Barrett led the conference and was third nationally, with 179 assists, and he was fourth, averaging 6.4 assists per game. He was one of three Division III players to record a triple-double this season. Barrett had six 20-point games and scored a career-high 33 points against Alfred State on Dec. 3. He finished his career with 1,608 points, tops in the NCAA era and third on the all-time list behind Greg Solyak’s 1,629 and Leroy Joiner’s 1,620.
Barrett and Joiner are the only three-time first-team all-conference recipients in program history.
Cross led the nation with 23 double-doubles and was the lone conference player to average a double-double (22.3 points, 13.2 rebounds). He led the league and finished in the top-five nationally in rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game (9.14).
Cross ended the season with a team-high 623 points and 369 rebounds to set new program single-season records in both categories. He closed out his career after joining the team nine games into the 2022-23 season with 1,315 points, second in the NCAA era and fifth all-time, and his seven 30-point games are the most in the men’s program history. He also set a new career rebounding record with 711.

Freshman Gigi Parlante of Williamsport and senior Rachel Teats of Middleburg were honored by the conference on Tuesday as Parlante landed on the first team and was named the Rookie of the Year, while Teats garnered her third second-team all-conference nod.
Parlante became the first conference major award winner in the program’s NCAA era and the second rookie/newcomer award winner as she joined Kierstin Steer, who graduated in 2013.
Parlante finished with 16 double-doubles and ended the season with team-highs in points (392), rebounds (281), steals (47) and blocks (14). She led the league in double-doubles and offensive boards per game (4.9), which was also the ninth-best mark in Division III. Parlante eclipsed the 20-point mark in six games, including a career-best 26 against Penn State Altoona, and had a 20-rebound performance against Keystone on Jan. 8.
Teats averaged the fifth-most minutes in the conference, logging 37.4 minutes per game. As the point guard, she was second in the league with a 1.72 assist-to-turnover ratio. She scored 296 points, led the team with 98 assists and finished with 39 steals and 10 blocks.
Teats ended her career with 1,143 points, fourth on the program’s all-time scoring list behind Alicia Ross (1,515, graduated in 2017), Jamie Steer (1,422, graduated in 2016) and Kierstin Steer (1,246, graduated in 2013).
“We had a historic season, setting a program NCAA era record for wins (15) and getting a first-round United East playoff bye for securing fourth place overall. Though our postseason ended in a tough loss to Bryn Athyn, we showed resilience through adversity as we had to compete in our postseason game without two key starters, Kenni Galbreath of Shrewsbury and veteran forward and leader Emily Pardee of Williamsport. We had key contributions from returners RaeAnna Andreas of Berwick, Parlante and Mia Patterson of Loyalsock Township, which shows promise for our future,” coach Britni Mohney said.
The coach continued, “Due to their impressive seasons and leadership, the United East recognized two Penn College Wildcats for their success, Parlante and Teats.
“Gigi’s dominance on the boards and her scoring ability were an immediate impact and made a significant shift in our program’s winning culture. Rachel’s third consecutive all-conference recognition is a reflection of her consistent excellence and leadership on and off the court. These accolades not only celebrate individual achievements but also underscore our record-breaking season. It’s great to see young talent and experienced leadership being rewarded.”

Earlier in the week, AJ Dotson of Wilmington, Delaware, and Ryan Twist of Great Meadows, New Jersey, swept the United East Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards.
