Twila Lyon Grimm 97, of Emporium, PA

Twila Lyon Grimm 97, of Emporium, PA, passed away Monday afternoon, November 3, 2025, at Guy and Mary Felt Manor in Emporium. Twila Coletta Lyon was born February 23, 1928, on Moore Hill, Emporium, the daughter of the late R. Paul and Susie Skillman Lyon.
On December 31, 1994, in Emporium, Twila married Homer Grimm and they shared 11 happy years together.
Twila was a graduate of Emporium High School and went on to attend Lycoming College, and Lock Haven College, where she majored in biology and minored in Spanish. She earned her master’s degree in education from Penn State University. She devoted over 35 years to teaching in the Cameron County School System, including three memorable years in a two-room schoolhouse in Sterling Run. Most of her teaching years were spent with fourth-grade students whom she delighted each spring with her well-known end-of-school horseback riding celebration.
A woman of faith and service, Twila was a member of both the Moore Hill and Endless Mountains Churches. She served for many years as secretary of the Moore Hill Cemetery Association was active in the Susanna Wesley Women’s Circle, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her deep love of horses extended to her leadership of the 4-H Horse Club, where she guided and inspired many young riders over the years.
Twila is survived by her Lyon family including, Nephew Paul (Sue) Lyon of Emporium; nieces Margie (Larry) Kelly of Allentown and Betsy (Bill) Musser of Willow Street; and nephews Raymond (Kathy) of Indiana, and David (Mollie) of Hermitage. She is also survived by her Grimm family including, her daughter, Darlene (Warren) Buchanan of Bradford; her son Jody (Linda) Grimm of Aurora, Colorado; and her son-in-law, Dave Cherry of Emporium; eleven grandchildren – Paul Haviland, Tammy Olinger, Mike Haviland Tina Mazza, Penny Cherry, Jimmilee Gibbs, John Cherry, Erin Hogan McKenzie Grimm, Brittany Johnson, and Ryan Grimm and several great-grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Brett Grimm; daughter, Paula Cherry; and five brothers, infant-Alvin, Leon, Clark, Lyle, and infant-Merle Lyon.
Funeral services will be held at the Endless Mountains Methodist Church, 306 S Spruce Street, Emporium on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Andrew P. Spore, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Moore Hill Cemetery, Emporium, PA.
