Structure Fire At Hershey’s Farm Market in Coudersport

Chief 48 Phelps was updated while enroute by Tioga Co 911 that they had received numerous calls reporting fire/smoke showing with numerous buildings involved.
Chief Phelps arrived in approx. 3 minutes, checked with individuals on-scene that no one was in the buildings and confirmed that two buildings ( Garage 30×60 and a Green house 30×80) were involved and threatening 4 other buildings in close proximity with individuals attempting to keep them cool with garden hoses til FF’s arrived.
All of our units were responding with crews and some POV’s already on scene with Chief Phelps, Phelps requested off of his second alarm assignment the closest Engine/Squad Co and his next due Dept with a ladder( Roulette – 46, Galeton 10 ).
Crews quickly went to work off Tanker 48 with a 2.5 Blitzfire and a 1.75 lin stretched to the D Exposure. Crews knocked the fire down with the Blitzfire then split it w/a Gated Y providing two additional 1.75 lines in service while individuals that arrived with POV tied them into the nearby hydrant on Ctr Park for a water supply.
Engine 48-1 laid 5″ supply line(600′) from Tanker 48 around Ctr Park to the other side of the fire and stretched a 1.75 for exposures and then transitioned to assist with attack and overhaul.
Truck 48 set up to vent or if need be go defensive, while Rescue 48 provided additional manpower/support and Cascade.
All mutual aid companies assisted with manpower for extinguishment, overhaul and placing units in-service.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 15:50 hrs with extensive overhaul due to hay bales and other items being involved to obtain full extinguishment with all units retuning at approximately 6pm to our station to clean gear/equipment and ready for the next alarm and to eat a meal prepared members.

While several other depts stood by for our mutual aid companies while they were assisting us. In all 30 members of our department answered the call and in total appropriately 55 FF’s.
There were no Injuries reported and the fire was ruled Undetermined in nature with a cost estimate of approximately $50-70,000 and the buildings are insured and the business remains open.
