Sarah J. Neilson, 95, of Powers Ave., Johnsonburg, PA
Sarah J. Neilson, 95, of Powers Ave., Johnsonburg, PA passed away early Thursday morning, July 4, 2024, at Penn Highlands-Elk, St. Marys following a brief illness. She was born on June 1, 1929, in Johnsonburg, a daughter to the late Anthony C. and Gertrude Keenan Kriegel. On May 17, 1952, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married Donald Neilson. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1998.
A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Sarah was a 1947 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and was a member of the Funeral Dinner Committee for many years. She was the treasurer for the East End Hose Co. Aux, for 28 years and was the longest living Auxiliary Member of the Johnsonburg Fire Dep’t. having joined in 1952. Sarah loved spending time with her family, camping, traveling, gardening and was known for her delicious pies.
Sarah had spent most of her life as a homemaker, but had worked at the Comet Supermarket, the A&P, and G.C. Murphy Co., all in Johnsonburg.
Sarah is survived by her children, Donald E. Neilson (Denise) of Wilcox, Dorothy Shick of Ridgway and Mary A. Markus (David) of Ridgway, her grandchildren, Jenny Quiggle (Rich), Jaime Santiago (Javier) and Robin Shick and her great-grandchildren, Brianna Chirico, Michaela Quiggle and Xavier Santiago.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah is predeceased by her siblings, Richard, Eugene O. “Oscar”, David L. and Robert B. Kriegel, Agnes Kriegel, Catherine L. Brown, Frances G. Jackson and Nancy Chiesa.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sarah J. Neilson will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel, 401 Chestnut Street, Johnsonburg on Monday morning from to 9:15 to service time at 10:30 AM.
