Sally J. Wilson, 67, of 133 Edgewood Road, St. Marys
Sally J. Wilson, 67, of 133 Edgewood Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at her residence, after a lengthy illness.
Sally was born on December 24, 1957, the daughter of Bob and Doris (Erich) Fritz of Poplar Road. On September 29, 1977, in St. Benedict’s Church in Daguscahonda, she married Steve Wilson, the love of her life, who survives. They have been married 47 years.
They have two children: Nikki (Jeff Werner) of Brookville and Eric (Jessica) Wilson of Vienna, VA; and six beloved grandsons: Caleb, Austin, Ethan, Malachi, Ezra, and Jonas. She is also survived by her brothers: Roger (Barb) Fritz and Gary (Joanne) Fritz, both of St. Marys.
Sally attended Queen of the World Elementary School and graduated from Elk County Christian High School in 1975. She attended Mercyhurst College and Bryant and Stratton Business Institute.
Sally was employed by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce in 1985 as their Secretary. The organization underwent a change in leadership, and it became necessary for her to assume more and more responsibilities until she eventually assumed the role of Executive Director in 1988, a position she held until 2011. She truly loved her position and the St. Marys community and the diverse activities in which she participated.
During her career, she was responsible for and can be directly cited for numerous events and improvements that are still ongoing today. These accomplishments include: the acquisition of the current interior and exterior of the building; implementing the Gift Certificate program which (in 2011) had generated over $440,000 in revenue for local businesses; the Business Expo, July 4th Fireworks Celebration, Business After Hours, Women’s Recognition Program, and the Wing Fling; assisted with execution of major community and area-wide events such as the St. Marys Sesquicentennial, Capital for a Day, International Powdered Metal Symposium, and the Marcellus Shale Expo. She also represented the St. Marys Area on numerous local, county, and regional boards and committees on issues of education, tourism, legislation, economic development, and downtown revitalization.
Sally was an avid reader and was a lifelong member of the St. Marys Public Library, but gardening was her true love. She looked forward to the spring when she could select the perfect flower combinations for her many containers which adorned her patio, her oasis. She also loved hummingbirds, with numerous feeders throughout her gardens.
But her greatest love of all was her six grandsons. They were the lights of her life. She loved attending their various sporting events, playing cards, and swimming with them in the summer.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Marys Public Library, 127 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857; or to Meals-on-Wheels, P.O. Box 302, St. Marys, PA 15857, which Sally served as President/Coordinator for the past ten years.
