Sally Ann Von Nieda Metzger, 94, Coudersport, PA
Sally Ann Von Nieda Metzger, a vibrant and spirited woman, passed away peacefully at her home in Coudersport, PA on November 17, 2023, at the age of 94.
Born on May 2, 1929, in Girard, PA, Sally was the beloved daughter of Harold Bartram “Whitey” Von Nieda and Pauline “Polly” Emaline Clark. Her father was the esteemed owner of the Western Auto while her mother co-owned Suzy Q’s dress shop, both on Main Street in Coudersport, PA
On February 28, 1948, Sally married the love of her life, Edwin “Stub” Metzger. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and cherished memories.
Sadly, Sally was preceded in death by her beloved husband, “Stub” Metzger, as well as her son, George Stanley “Butch” Metzger, daughter Melissa Ann (John) Merrick, and brother Harold Clark “Buzz” (Ruth) Von Nieda. Although their absence left a void in her heart, Sally’s legacy lives on through her surviving children, daughter Marty Alice Maiuro (Larry Herbstritt) and son Bret Clark (Teri) Metzger. She is also survived by her sisters, Allyn Sue (Jack) Halloran and Mary Robin (Larry) Chilson.
Sally’s memory will forever be cherished by her eight grandchildren, Benjamin Troy (Rhonda) Stimaker, Tara Lee (Giles) Kesteloot, Michael John (Kelsey) Maiuro, Jenna Margaret (Eric) Gurney, Melissa Dawn (Brian) Borgoyn, Megan Lynne (Brian) McGrath, Bret Edwin (Edith) Metzger and Taylor Ellen (Shawn) Miltenberger. Additionally, she leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
Sally was a woman of extraordinary character, known for her fierce independence, zest for life, and infectious smile. After high school, she attended Powers Modeling and Finishing School in New York City. She possessed an adventurous spirit, which led her to explore the world through ballroom dancing and travel to many international destinations such as Egypt, Africa, Australia and Germany. Sally’s energy and enthusiasm were truly remarkable.
Always impeccably dressed, Sally took great pride in her appearance and well-being. She was a certified Reiki Master and dedicated herself to maintaining optimal health and wellness. She radiated spunk and style that could rival individuals half her age. She saw the good in everyone she met and never spoke negatively.
In addition to her vibrant spirit and love for adventure, Sally was also a natural-born entrepreneur and businesswoman. Her drive and determination led her to various successful ventures throughout her life. From 1967-1980 she served as the secretary to the superintendent at Coudersport Area School District. She was the owner of multiple Slender You Salons, a weight-loss and fitness program where she later became a trainer for the company. Even at the age of 94, Sally was a savvy real-estate investor and landlord, owning and managing multiple properties and business storefronts in Coudersport. Sally’s entrepreneurial endeavors were a testament to her unwavering work ethic and enthusiasm.
Sally Ann Von Nieda Metzger will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of vivacity, love, and resilience will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched.
