Roberta P. West “The greatest Mom in the world”
Roberta P. West, 94, of Millport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in her home with her loving family by her side.
Born on Tuesday, June 3, 1930, in Shaytown, PA, she was a daughter of Kirke S. and Pauline V. Wood Newton. On November 15, 1953 in the Millport United Brethren Church, she married Loyd L. West, who passed away on June 20, 1999.
Roberta was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1948. Her first job was as a secretary at the former Potter County Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, where she met her husband to be, Loyd West. They shared 45 years of marriage until his passing.
During those years Roberta also worked for Gas Field Specialists, Inc., formerly West Brothers, where Loyd was co-owner and president. Beyond secretarial work, she was often out in the gas field with Loyd measuring pipeline, keeping inventory and changing weekly production charts.
Roberta attended the former Millport United Methodist Church. She was active in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She served as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed collecting family history and corresponding with long-lost relatives. Her greatest loves were her family and her devotion to the Lord.
Left to cherish her memory are four children, Victoria P. West, Shane L. (Janice) West, Arnold L. West, and Brenda H. West; a grandson, Adam West; a granddaughter, Crystal Searight; two great-grandsons, Cameron Samuels and Xander Ibach; a sister, Rebecca (Earl) Mahon; a sister-in-law, Dawn Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was predeceased by an infant son, Craig R. West; a granddaughter, Shirley West Ibach; and two brothers, infant Virgil Newton and Kirk Newton.
In keeping with Roberta’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately in the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse with the Rev. Bill Waterman, pastor of the Millport Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Pauline M. West Cemetery, Millport.
