Eldred–  Robert Gene “Bob” Whitsell, 82, of Slack Hollow Rd., passed away Wednesday (August 13th, 2025) at UPMC Cole Memorial Hospital, with his wife by his side.

Born November 3rd, 1943 in Wellsville he was a son of Robert George and Hester Latten Whitsell.  On November 18th, 1966 in the bride’s family home on Slack Holow, he married Bonnie Smith, who survives.

Mr. Whitsell was a 1962 graduate of Whitesville, Ny High School.  He then served in the US Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served stateside from 1962 to 1966.  He then spent his career employed by the Dresser-Rand Corporation in Olean, where he was a machinist and operated many of the machines there and retired as an inspector.

Bob was very mechanically inclined and could fix anything, he especially loved cars.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jason (Jhel) Whitsell of Eldred, and Robin (Rachel) Whitsell of West Clarksville; a daughter in law, Marsha Blessing of Eldred;  four grandchildren, Trevor, Morgan, John and Chris; and four siblings, Elaine (Maynard) Towner of Andover, Mary (Frank) Engle of Genesee, and Kevin (Sally) Whitsell.

He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Whitsell in 2023; a grandson, Edward  and a brother, Franklin Whitsell.
