Robert Frederick “Pop” Erway, 90, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Mansfield, PA
Robert Frederick “Pop” Erway, 90, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Mansfield, PA passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 26, 1932 in Wellsboro, the son of the late Charles & Mildred (Seeley) Erway. He married the former Joyce Welch on September 1, 1951 and have celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Bob worked for the North Penn Gas Company, now UGI, retiring in 1995 and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wellsboro where he served as an elder. Earlier in life he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mansfield and served as a trustee and elder.
Bob served as a scoutmaster of Troop #106, Commissioner, Committeeman for Troops 106 and 24, executive board member of the General Sullivan Council, Vice President of the Council and President for two years. Was a member of the Five Rivers Council executive board and the recipient of the coveted Silver Beaver Award.
Bob was an involved member of the Mansfield community, serving on the Tioga County Borough Association and served as President at the time of the ground breaking of the Tioga-Hammond Dam in 1974. He was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club, the B.O.O.M. Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the Mansfield Fire Company and Ambulance Association, Mansfield Borough Council, serving as President for three years.
Bob was a member of the Friendship Masonic Lodge #247 and a 32nd degree Mason. He also served on the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce, the GROW Industrial Committee and the United Way. Bob enjoyed growing vegetables and fruit, growing hay, and raising bees on his farm in Lawrenceville, PA.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, Bob is survived by a daughter, Linda (Ellsworth Richardson) Andrews of Middlebury Center; two sons: Michael (Debra) Erway of Ottawa, KS; and Jeffrey (Alisa) Erway of Richmond, VA; an adopted daughter, Toni Brauchler of Dunkirk, NY; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Timmy Erway, a granddaughter, Sarah Erway, 8 brothers and 2 sisters.
A memorial service for Bob will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions in Bob’s name be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St., Wellsboro, PA 16901.
