Robert D. “Bob” Sherwood, 69, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 18, 2023, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born on Tuesday, June 2, 1953 in Coudersport, he was a son of Merville D. Jr. and Patricia D. Pease Sherwood. On January 14, 1984 in their home, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara J. “Barb” Colburn, who passed away on September 1, 2015.
Bob was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse and further studied to be an electrician. At the age of 18, Bob started working at the former Clark Brothers in Olean as an electrician. He retired after more than 30 years of service. In 2015, he went to work for the Community Blood Bank based in Erie as a courier.
Bob was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, a life member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department where he was a past president. Bob enjoyed electronics, hunting and fishing. One of his greatest enjoyments was an annual trip or sometimes twice a year trip to Disney World and Lancaster. While in Lancaster his favorite restaurant to visit was the Shady Maple Smorgasbord and browsing through the Kitchen Kettle Village of Shops in Lancaster.
Bob’s greatest love was the time he spent with his beloved wife, Barb, and the rest of his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are a son, Bruce Daniel (Wendy) Whitman of Millport; a daughter, Amy L. Salada of Shinglehouse; nine grandchildren, Levi D. Whitman, Sarah J. Smith, Christopher A. Smith, Kennedy A. Whitman, Paige R. Prince, Lindsey A. Chappell, Kaci L. Chappell, Sawyer Robert Prince, and Chase A. Whitman; two great-grandchildren, Zoey L. Smith-Greene and Hunter A. Smith; his brother and best friend, Richard S. “Dick” Sherwood of Shinglehouse; a son-in-law, Patrick “PR” Prince of Millport; a lifelong friend, Patrick Ahl of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kristy L. (Dustin) Good of Shinglehouse; a grandniece, Makenzie T. Good; and a grandnephew, Mason R. Good.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife of 31 years, Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Shelly A. Prince, who passed away on May 12, 2018; a son, Paul Stanley Whitman, who passed away on June 19, 2008; and two sisters, infant Carol L. Sherwood and Debra K. Sherwood, who passed away on March 18, 2006.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside funeral services at 1pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023, in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse with the Rev. Trula Hollywood, Bob’s cousin and pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Owego.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 475, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
Bob’s family entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
