Rita A. Costello, 94, of Bradford, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Pavilion at BRMC.
She was born on August 21, 1930 in Bradford, the daughter of the late Walter and Anna Rink Roberts.
She was a 1948 graduate of the former St. Bernard School.
On March 31, 1951 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church she married Patrick J. Costello, Jr. who preceded her in death on August 12, 2003.
She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club and the Current Events Club and the Literary Club where she was a past president for both. She enjoyed swimming, skiing, traveling and bridge marathons. The most enjoyable time of her life was spent at her second home at the cottage on Lake Erie at Hanford Bay which was bought by her parents in 1939. While at the family cottage she was the founding member of the bridge club in Hanford Bay. She thoroughly enjoyed all the time she spent with her family and friends.
She co-owned the former Seaward’s Variety Store with her husband and after the children had grown up she worked locally as a home health aide.
She is survived by one son, Kevin P. (Linda Rimer) Costello of Bradford; two daughters, Lisa R. Cagney of Silver Creek, NY and Marie A. Costello of Bradford; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by one infant son, Sean M. Costello; one son, Daniel J. Costello; one daughter, Elizabeth M. Costello and two brothers, George Roberts and Walter “Eddie” Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. John Jacquel as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made in Rita’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
