Richard A. Murray, 66, of Olean, formerly of Smethport, Pa.
Richard A. Murray (Genie Masters), 66, of Olean, formerly of Smethport, Pa., passed away Monday (Dec. 2, 2024) at ECMC in Buffalo, after battling cancer.
Born Sept. 7, 1958, in Olean, he was a son of Irvine and Sarah Ingalls Murray. Richard was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1976, in Shinglehouse, Pa.
Richard loved music and played in several bands through the years. He could pick up almost any instrument and learn to play it without lessons. His primary profession was as a mechanic, and he was known to many as the guy who could fix almost anything.
Surviving are one brother, Terry (Susan) Murray of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Jackie (Victor) Taylor of Shinglehouse and Janice Murray of Port Allegany, Pa.; one son, Phillip Murray of Smethport; three daughters, Elizabeth (Dave) Myers and Stephanie (Jeremy) Gifford, both of Smethport, and Jennifer Murray (Mike Pitts) of Erie, Pa.; eight grandsons, Keith, William and Robert Myers, Isaiah Hassett, Bryce and Ethan Gifford and O’Ryan and Hunter Young; eight granddaughters, Vic (Kaleb) Riley, Cadence Gamet, Ava and Annabelle Gifford, Sarah and Eliana Murray, Juliana Myers and Violet Pitts, due in January 2025; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Kai’Oni; one great-grandson, Aston, due February 2025; and five nephews and seven nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anne Pilon; and a brother, William Murray.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be determined.
