Raymond L. McGinnis “beloved husband, father, and Papa”
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—Raymond L. “Ray” McGinnis, 70, of Shinglehouse, passed away surrounded by his loving family in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, on Friday, October 18, 2024, after a long illness.
Born on Sunday, May 16, 1954 in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of Jess and Esther Birge McGinnis. On October 9, 1993 in Shinglehouse, he married Roberta G. Ackerson, who survives.
Ray was a graduate of United High School in Armagh, PA. He served in Vietnam in the US Army as a Airborne Ranger. He had been employed by the former Potato City Country Inn in Coudersport as a bartender and assistant manager. He was also employed in sales for Adelphia Communications in Coudersport. He was lastly employed as a oil field worker operator assistant for Halliburton in Emporium, retiring in 2009.
Ray was a former member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, and traveling. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Roberta; two daughters, Mandy L. (Toby) Smith and Sandy A. (Thomas) Walmer, both of Shinglehouse; a son, Michael R. (Amanda Baker) Ackerson of Shinglehouse; four grandchildren, Paige (Cole), Macayla (Gabriel), Ethan, and Katherine; a great-grandson, Grayson; three siblings, Ervin (Margaret), Thelmie, and Peggy; many nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Gladys M. Ramsey.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by a son, Raymond Lee McGinnis; a daughter, Michelle McGinnis; and eight brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Ray’s wishes, there will be no services.

Ray’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
