Salamander Scramble at Lyman Run State Park
Saturday, May 4, 2024. 2 PM – 3 PM. Meet at the picnic tables by the beach house.
Join a park educator for an up-close look at the slimy, secretive critters that call Lyman Run State Park Home. Let’s look for salamanders! We’ll learn what makes salamanders unique, discover their hiding spots, and more! Wear your boots or sturdy shoes to this program – we’ll be getting in the mud. Program best for school-aged kids and their families, older and younger siblings welcome. PA Bird Atlas Walk at Lyman Run State Park
Saturday, May 11, 2024, 8 AM – 10 AM. Meet at the picnic tables by the beach house
Be a part of a community effort to document all the birds breeding in Pennsylvania, just in time for World Migratory Bird Day! Meet at the picnic tables by the beach house at 8 AM. Join one of the Potter County bird atlas coordinators on a walk to discover what birds are here, and what they’re up to. Learn about the ongoing 3rd Pennsylvania Bird Atlas and contribute information to help document PA birds. New to birding? No problem! This program is well-suited to beginners and experts alike. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. Nature at Night at Cherry Springs State Park

If you’re looking for something to do before the night sky tour, join park staff for a family friendly Nature at Night Program! These programs feature fascinating creatures that enjoy the night as much as we do at Cherry Springs. Possible topics include fireflies, owls, bats, black bears and more. Registration is not required for Nature at Night programs. No dogs, please. Night Sky Tour and Telescopes at Cherry Springs State Park
Friday, May 3, Saturday, May 4, Friday May 10, and Saturday, May 11, 8:30 PM – 11 PM. Meet at the amphitheater benches in the Night Sky Public Viewing Area.
Free laser-guided tour of the night sky. If conditions allow, we’ll look through telescopes at some of the key features of the spring sky. Telescopes available from roughly 9:15 PM until about 11 PM. Telescope availability is subject to staff/volunteer availability, weather conditions, and crowd size limitations. Registration encouraged, but not required. Should we need to cancel or modify a program due to weather, etc., we will email all registered participants. No dogs, please. Nightscapes Photo Workshop at Cherry Springs State Park
Saturday, May 4, 2024, 8 PM – 11 PM. Meet by the kiosk in the Night Sky Public Viewing Area Parking Lot
Photograph the starry night sky with your DSLR camera & lenses you currently own. Curt Weinhold, a PA Wilds Juried Artisan, teaches you to photograph constellations & the Milky Way. Class is not for visitors wanting to take photos through a telescope. Registration Required. Registration closes at 3 PM on Thursday, May 2. Class size is limited to 10 seats, with a waitlist available if class has filled. Fee $65, payable the night of the class.
