Preston P. Prough, 58, Wellsboro, PA
Preston P. Prough, 58, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the Guthrie Corning Hospital following a brave battle against cancer. Born October 27, 1965, in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late Marvin E. and Linda (Roland) Prough-Shuey.
After graduating from the Wellsboro Area High School, class of 1983, Preston enlisted in the US Air Force, and worked as a dental assistant. With his honorable discharge complete, he returned to work in many fields, including Assistant Pro at the Tyoga Country Club (Wellsboro), Willow Creek Gold Course (Big Flats, NY), and The Tioga Golf Course (Nichols, NY). Preston was considered one of the top golfers of the Northern Tier of PA, during his lifetime and was involved with the sport until his passing. He was also an avid outdoorsman, with a passion for ice fishing for pan fish, and black powder deer hunting after Christmas.
Preston is survived by a son: Schyler of Wyoming; a daughter: Sydney of Virginia; and a granddaughter Felicity of Virginia. He was the oldest of four brothers: Perry (Tammy), Philip, and Patrick (Flori), all of whom reside in Wellsboro. He is also survived by his stepfather: Wilmer Shuey of Middlebury Center; four nephews; and a niece.
Preston’s final request was for there to be no services held in his honor, but that any donations could be directed to the Youth Golf Program at the River Valley Golf Club, 80 Bailey Burrow Avenue, Westfield, PA 16950. His arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA.
