Portrait Reveal at OGH in Honor of Robert and Marjorie Schaumleffel
OLEAN, NY – Olean General Hospital (OGH), a member campus of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), held a reception to unveil a hand-painted portrait of a couple that has and will continue to, make a significant impact on the hospital campus. The ceremony was held on October 27 to honor the late Robert and Marjorie Schaumleffel, who left a long legacy of philanthropy and volunteerism. Held in the main waiting area of the hospital many of Majorie’s former auxiliary members shared stories and talked about what a bright light she was. Family, close friends, and members of the hospital staff gathered to recognize this admirable couple that began their benevolent gifts to OGH in 1998.
The ceremony opened with a blessing of the portrait from Reverend Carrie Wolf and tributes from family and close friends. Each story included just a small glimpse of the tremendous impact that Marjorie and Robert had on the community, but also on those they loved and held dear to their heart. The portrait was handcrafted by Barbara Fox out of Ellicottville who took pains in portraying the personality and that of importance to both Marjorie and Robert.
The portrait that now hangs above the fireplace in the main lobby of OGH, right outside the coffee kiosk, depicts Marjorie and Robert wearing items of great significance. Robert is seen wearing a rotary pin as he had been an active member of the largest service organization in the world. Around Marjorie’s neck, a necklace with a cross dangles below her shoulders, highlighting her devotion to faith and her church Christ United Methodist.
“This chosen spot for Bob and Marge Schaumleffel’s portrait is special for many reasons. The portrait hangs here to pay tribute to a couple that enjoyed participating in the changing seasons. They always enjoyed when good friends and colleagues are sitting to enjoy a cup of coffee, bite to eat or just to say hi to one another,” said Steve Jackson, president, Olean General Hospital Foundation, closing the ceremony. “Bob and Marge left a multi-million dollar planned gift that will continue to bless OGH in perpetuity which will be felt well past our lifetime, but the most powerful gift that they left is how they showed love.”
