Philip J. Shefcyk, 73, of Kersey, PA
Philip J. Shefcyk, 73, of Kersey, PA passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Penn Highlands Elk following a lengthy illness.
He was born on October 5, 1949 in St. Marys, a son of the late Richard and Patricia McKay Shefcyk.
On December 26, 1966, he married his lifelong best friend and one true love, M. Carol Shefcyk, who survives. Together they shared more than 56 years of love, laughter, and happiness.
Phil was a lifelong resident of Elk County and proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended college at Penn State DuBois. He retired from Airco Speer after many years of service and had also been employed at FireProof, PennDOT, and Molded Materials. He was a life member of the Ridgway American Legion and was also a member of the Ridgway Elks Club.
In his younger years, Phil was a dedicated Boy Scout who also served as a Junior Ranger, fighting forest fires during his freshman year of high school. He was also known for his love of hunting rattlesnakes. An avid outdoorsman, he could often be found fishing and hunting. Most of all, he was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his kindness and big heart.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by 4 children; Penny (Dwayne) Titchner of St. Marys, Catherine “Kate” (Brent) Cousins of Kersey, Wendy (Jim) Rickard of Ridgway, and Robin (Steve) Eckl of Highland; by six grandsons; Devin, Jonathon, Melvin, Aric, Richard, and Philip, any by three great-grandsons; Zaven, Melvin, and Dennis. He is also survived by a brother; Sam (Cindy) Shefcyk, a sister; Sari Reed, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother-in-law; Steve (Sue) Gibbs, and by a sister-in-law; Patty Greene.
A Memorial Service for Philip J. Shefcyk will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Krise Funeral Home, 339 Main Street, Kersey, PA 15846.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Family and friends will be received at the Krise Funeral Home on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
