PFBC, WAYNE COUNTY AND PARTNERS CELEBRATE OPENING OF INDIAN ORCHARD RIVER ACCESS ON LACKAWAXEN RIVER

HONESDALE, Pa. — Residents and visitors to Wayne County have a brand-new place to float their boats. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), county commissioners, and local volunteers cut the ribbon on the Indian Orchard River Access along the Lackawaxen River Trail in Texas Township.
The new access is designed for paddlers and serves as the midpoint of the 10-mile-long Lackawaxen River Trail from Honesdale to Hawley. The access area includes a boat launch, paved parking area, benches, and a restroom. Along with Indian Orchard, two other projects — White Mills and Sycamore Point Park in Honesdale — have been opened in the last three years in Wayne County.
The three projects cost about a million dollars combined, funded through the PFBC’s Boating Facility Grant Program and local fundraising. In recent years, the PFBC has received additional federal funding specifically to develop public access to the water within the Delaware River Watershed.
