PennDOT – District 2 News – PennDOT Announces Tree Trimming Work in Potter County
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work to trim and remove trees along Route 44 in Hebron, Clara, and Sharon townships and along Route 1005 in Pike Township, Potter County, began on Monday, August 12. This work will enhance driver safety and extend the life of the roadway surface.
PennDOT expects the work to take several months. The contractors will complete the work during daylight hours. Drivers may encounter short delays as roadway flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern during these operations. Drivers should remain alert for flaggers and slow-moving or stopped traffic.
Tree trimming and removal provide “daylighting” to the roadway, allowing sunlight to speed snow and ice melt during winter. It also enhances sight distance at some locations and lessens the potential for old and dead trees to fall onto the road. Richardson Tree & Landscape Co. Inc. of New Wilmington, PA, and Patriot Tree Surgeons of Allentown, PA, are the contractors on this project.
PennDOT Announces Atherton Street Schedule for Week of August 19
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on the schedule for its South Atherton Street (Route 3014) project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College. While the contractor will not be working on Friday, August 23, or Saturday, August 24, to mitigate traffic impacts for students moving in for Penn State’s fall semester, drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the following Monday, August 19, through Thursday, August 22.
Crews will continue to work within the long-term traffic control pattern between College Avenue and Curtain Road, with traffic reduced to one lane during daylight hours. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control.
During non-working hours, the contractor will keep two lanes open between Park and Railroad avenues. The right lane between Railroad and College avenues will remain closed. Both westbound lanes heading toward North Atherton Street will be open.
PennDOT posts updates and detour information on the Atherton Street project page weekly and encourages drivers to visit the page at www.penndot.pa.gov/AthertonStreet.
Overall work on the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements that include pipes and inlets, water and sewer lines, concrete curbing, sidewalks and detectable warning surfaces, pavement markings, traffic signals and supports, and miscellaneous items. HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $30.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the project in the fall of 2024, but all work is weather-dependent.
PennDOT reminds motorists that intermittent traffic stops are possible for short periods during work activities and urges drivers to use caution when traveling through the work zone. PennDOT also reminds drivers not to follow construction equipment into the closed lane and to use both lanes to the merge point to minimize traffic back-ups and shorten travel delays when approaching the work zone.
