PENN STATE EXTENSION WORKSHOP

Are you interested in exploring design, building, and management of a bedded pack barn while learning tips for cow comfort, milk quality, daily management, and funding opportunities? If your answer is ‘yes’ you are invited to attend the Penn State Extension workshop:
Bedded Pack and Milk Quality
Tuesday, March 31, 2026; 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Troy Fire Department, 88 Firehouse Dr., Troy, PA 16947
John Tyson, Penn State Extension Ag. Engineer, will focus on site selection, barn design, pack maintenance, composting practices, best practices for ventilation, and recommended internal barn dimensions.
Emily Fread, Penn State Extension Educator, will discuss what can be done to keep high milk quality in bedded pack barns. This will include bedding, stock density, udder hygiene, pre-dip and post-milking dip, importance of timing and proper milker udder attachment.
In addition, Kevin Brown, Ag. Resource Specialist, Bradford Co. Conservation District, will discuss what fundings for bedded pack construction is available and the process to apply for one.
This workshop is sponsored by Organic Valley and is open to both organic and conventional dairy producers.
