Penn College athletics have terrific week
Three NCAA Regional wrestling medalists, three United East Volt Division all-conference basketball players, wins by the baseball and men’s lacrosse teams, and two top 10 archers. It was a very good week for Pennsylvania College of Technology athletics.
WRESTLING
When the dust settled on Saturday, for the second season in a row, Penn College saw three of its wrestlers finish among the top eight in their respective weights at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships, marking the first time in program history with back-to-back seasons with at least three regional medalists.
Freshman Kaden Ware of Brooklyn, Connecticut, ended sixth at 133, while junior Noah Hunt of Muncy at 141 and freshman Travis Green of Manchester, Maryland, at 165 both were eighth. It was the first time in program history that two freshmen reached the podium in the same regional.
With 33 team points, Penn College placed 16th in a 21-team field.
Ware completed a 2-2 tournament and a 33-12 season, Hunt was 3-3 at regionals and 31-12 overall, and Green was 3-3 at regionals and 36-17 overall.
Also for the Wildcats, Liam Goodrich of Cogan Station went 2-2 at 157 and ended his season with an 18-18 record; Nicholai Brotzman of Marietta at 285 (1-2, 29-18 with 21 falls); Luke Heimbach of Boyertown at 125 (0-2, 20-20); seventh-ranked TJ Martin of Honesdale at 149 (0-1 with a medical forfeit, 35-18); Cavin Napoletano of Killingworth, Connecticut, at 174 (0-2, 17-23); and Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni of Blairsville at 197 (0-2, 17-22). (NOTE: Season records are based on information from the NCAA Mideast Regional website).
It marked the first time four Wildcats ended with 30-plus wins as Ware, Hunt, Green and Martin were ranked numerous times throughout the season in the Mideast Region by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
