Penn College Athletics at a Glance

Last week in review: Although the women’s soccer team’s regular-season unbeaten string ended, two of its players were among four Wildcats who were awarded weekly honors by the United East Conference.
Also, head baseball coach Chris Howard was announced as one of 14 members of the Class of 2025 who will be inducted into the West Branch Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in November. In 18 seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, Howard’s teams have posted a 377-283 won-loss record, winning three conference championships, finishing second four times and finishing third twice.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s hometown highlights: Hosting defending United East champ and this year’s favorite to repeat Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, the Wildcats saw their regular-season unbeaten streak end at 36 in a defensive nail-biter that saw goalie Morgan Solano, of Shavertown, make 10 saves. Penn College’s last regular-season loss came on Sept. 30, 2023, at Penn State Harrisburg, also by a 1-0 score. The streak included 28 wins and eight draws.
Also, Wildcats Ashley Gordon, of Pottstown, was honored as the UE Defensive Player of the Week and Sara Darlington, of West Chester, as the UE Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 6. Gordon’s play led to two wins that allowed just one goal, and Darlington’s week included two hat tricks.

MEN’S SOCCER
Last week’s hometown highlights: In Tuesday’s win over Penn State Berks, Gill Garrett, of Florida, New York, and Josh Hudak, of Allentown, each scored a goal, and goalkeeper Justin Crismale, of Glen Gardner, New Jersey, made three saves. On Thursday, in a loss at Penn State Abington, Crismale had seven saves.
Also, Crismale was honored as the UE Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 6 during his team’s 1-0-1 week that included six saves as his conference-leading goals-against average improved to .800 and his save percentage improved to .814.

MEN’S GOLF
Last week’s hometown highlights: Gunner Redmond, of Lock Haven, tied for seventh with a 152 in a field of 105 last Sunday and Monday at the Sinking Valley Collegiate Classic. Close by was Chase Dillman, of Boyertown, who finished one stroke behind.
In The Bear on Friday and Saturday, Redmond tied for second with a 147, one stroke out of first among 52, as Penn College topped a 10-team field. Also for the Wildcats, Brady Handy, of Huntingdon, tied for seventh with a 151; Dillman tied for 11th with a 153 and Brett Keenan, of Plymouth Meeting, tied for 16th with a 156.
Also, Redmond was honored by the United East as the Golfer of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 6 after two top-10 finishes, including individual medalist honors in the UE Fall Preview.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Ben Causak, of Lebanon, placed first in 31:09 to pace Tuesday’s win over Lycoming College. Following Causak, as the Wildcats swept the top four spots, were Mitchell Campbell, of Riegelsville; Holden Furey, of Williamsport; and Ethan Knapp, of Franklin.

Last week’s hometown highlights: In Friday’s win at Kean University, posting singles wins were Lauren Peck, of South Williamsport, at No. 2; Faith Murray, of Dillsburg, at No. 3; Leah Vest, of Muncy, at No. 4; and Kiera Wene, of Ephrata, at No. 5.
In Sunday’s loss at Susquehanna, winners were Peck at No. 2 singles, Murray at No. 3 singles, and Vest at No. 4 singles. Winning in doubles was the No. 1 team of Peck-Ellen Buckley, of Binghamton, New York.
