Paul L. Johnson, 91, of Route 155 N, Turtlepoint, PA
Paul L. Johnson, 91, of Route 155 N, Turtlepoint, PA went to be with his Lord, Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2024) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born February 26, 1932, in Duke Center, he was a son of Oscar F. and Cora Lathrop Johnson. On Nov. 5, 1955, in Portville, NY, he married Wilda V. Spears, who survives. They were married 68 years.
Paul was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1951.
He was a small engine mechanic who worked several years with Pierce Glass Co., Port Allegany, and later owned & operated the Paul Johnson Service, where he sold outdoor maintenance equipment, before his retirement.
Paul was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the US Navy. In 2009, he visited San Diego, CA, where he saw and boarded the USS Midway, where he had been assigned.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany. He was a past Cub Scout leader, and helped out with the Coryville Baseball league. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing & hunting. He and his wife traveled to Canada for over 50 years to enjoy the outdoors while camping. He hunted moose in Ontario Canada, and elk and mule deer in Colorado.
Surviving are two sons, Roderic L. (Ruth Mayes) Johnson of Turtlepoint, and Paul L. Johnson, Jr. of Mereden, Conn.; two daughters, Trina L. (Nelson) Smith of Mayport, PA, and Martha J. (Bradley) Bova of Port Allegany; 14 grandchildren, and 21 great-grand-children; a sister, Joan Harvell of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Oscar F. Johnson, Jr.; and three sisters, Dorothy Burdick, H. Ruth Fair, and Doris Bailey.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. til 1 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 20, 2024) in the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. James Cannistraci and Rev. Dennis Neenan co-officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
A military service will be conducted immediately following the funeral service at the church by the Port Allegany Honor Guard.
Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
