Patricia Vantine, 83, of Sleepy Hollow Rd., Emporium, PA
Patricia Vantine, 83, of Sleepy Hollow Rd. passed away Tuesday (March 11) in the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born March 21, 1941 in Kane, she is the daughter of the late Kenneth and Iola (Jones) Fulmer. On August 12, 1989, in Kane, she married James Vantine, who preceded her in death.
Patricia worked for many years as a teacher in the Kane Area School District. As an educator she took great pride in giving each child she was honored with teaching an opportunity to learn and grow. She was known to have a jar of Hershey’s Kisses and Huggs on her desk to commemorate even the simplest of achievements – she greatly believed each child she came across was special and deserved a chance to excel. She was an active member of the Tabor Lutheran Church, a volunteer at the Friend’s Memorial Library and a member of the Retired Teachers Group in Kane. She also was a member of numerous quilting groups and created some of the most elaborate scrap books created.
Patricia spent much of her retired time taking trips to visit her children and grandchildren at plays, sporting events, choral or band concerts, and everything else they were a part of. When she was not traveling somewhere to visit a relative, she was almost certainly taking her children and grandchildren on trips to experience things they had not before. Alongside her on all these journeys was the love of her life, Jim (Unless it was to the sewing or quilting stores – he would stay home from those trips). The two of them were inseparable from their first date in 1989.
Later in life her and Jim developed a love for RV camping at Red Oak Campground and spent several summers there. They were quick to host family and friends, alongside their affable dogs, Maxie and Moxie.
She is survived by three daughters, Perrice Peterson of Warren, Penny (Wally) Barber of Kane, and Peggan (David) Damiani of Lancaster, NY; one son, Patrick Bearfield of Grand Junction, CO; one brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Fulmer; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson, Gus Bearfield and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son Prescott “Scott” Bearfield and a son-in-law Doug Peterson.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation which will take place Saturday, March 15 at the Tabor Lutheran Church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at the church at noon, with the Rev. David Pflieger, officiating. Interment will be in Mt Tabor Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kane Area Children’s Museum at www.kachm.org/donate/ or mailed to Kane Area Children’s Museum c/o KADC, 63 Fraley Street Suite 101, Kane, PA 16735.
