PennDOT Honors Employees for Innovative Ideas
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently recognized PennDOT employees with Innovation Awards for their efforts to improve work practices and create efficiencies. Three team members from PennDOT’s District 2, which represents Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin, and Potter counties were among the honorees.
“PennDOT has a strong legacy of creativity to help us meet our daily mission and goals,” said PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian. “I’m proud to recognize these employees for their creativity and dedication to the department.”
Employees were recognized for ideas and smart practices submitted through IdeaLink and WorkSmart, online suggestion systems that allow employees to share their ideas and efficient work practices. Over the last decade, PennDOT staff have submitted more than 3,300 ideas through IdeaLink, several hundred of which have been implemented. Since 2016, more than 230 smart practices have been published in PennDOT’s WorkSmart system.
Gramian and other department executives honored winners Mike Rogato, Cody Conklin, and Bruce Muthler during a ceremony in Harrisburg on Nov. 30. Rogato, from Elk County, was recognized for painting marks on the walls of salt sheds, helping to improve proper stacking of salt and providing a clear display showing inventory levels. Conklin, from Clearfield County, was recognized for designing and fabricating folding forks to be mounted on a backhoe. This helps crews be more efficient and reduces the risk of injury from employees lifting heavy objects. Muthler, from Clinton County, was recognized for refabricating plow blades to add curvature. This prevents snow from rising over the top of the plow blade and building up on the driver side windshield. This improves visibility and enhances safety.
District 2 Executive Tom Zurat noted, “Over the past few years, emphasis on innovations in District 2 has led to a variety of quality innovations.” “These three award winners are wonderful examples of this effort.”
Law Enforcement Detail in Kane
District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer confirms that the large police presence seen by Kane residents on December 6, 2022, was a joint task force of several police agencies on a saturation patrol.
The coordinated special detail consisted of the McKean County Detectives, Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, McKean County Drug Task Force, McKean County K9 Unit, Kane Borough Police, Bradford City Police, Bradford City K9, McKean County Sheriff’s Department, City of St. Mary’s Police, Emporium Police, McKean County Probation, Warren County Detective and K9, Warren Drug Task Force, Elk County Detective, Homeland Security-Pittsburgh, and McKean County District Attorney’s Office.
The detail was designed to saturate the area with law enforcement to allow for high visibility of law enforcement, develop intelligence, locate wanted individuals, follow up on existing leads and act as a support for each of the participating departments.
The special details have been conducted throughout our region with the coordination of the agencies.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer: “The coordination of the agencies maximizes each locality’s abilities with the increased manpower and resources. The coordination allows for us to pull resources. The number of officers that were in Kane tonight exceeded 30 officers from the agencies that participated. The details allow for a large influx of officers that exceed the number of officers that any one municipality would be able to have and creates an opportunity that would not otherwise exist. The entire region has benefited from these patrols since they started occurring regularly in our region – specifically McKean and surrounding counites. I am extremely grateful for the generous participation of the law enforcement agencies that participated.”
The details include both marked and unmarked units and range from vehicle stops to residential searches and warrant service.
These details continue to be coordinated and will continue to occur throughout the area.
