PITT-BRADFORD PLANS FALL ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSES
BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will hold two open houses this month that offer the best opportunity for students and their families to meet faculty and staff, tour campus and talk with current students all in one afternoon.
Open Houses begin at 12:30 p.m. with a chance to meet many faculty and student-support staff and will be held on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.
Students and families will also have a chance to attend a presentation about the admissions process and tour the campus and first-year residence halls with a student ambassador.
Students and families can also attend separate sessions with a student panel and a member of the faculty. On Nov. 5, the faculty presenter will be Dr. William Clark, assistant professor of secondary education.
“Open houses are a great opportunity to talk with members of the faculty,” said admissions counselor Katherine Moyer, adding that, if families cannot make it to an open house, there are many other options for visitation, including daily visitation at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and a visitation days on Friday, Nov. 11, when many school districts are not in session.
Virtual open houses and tours are also available any time.
To register for an in-person event or tour online, visit upb.pitt.edu/visit-campus.
Galeton Weather report for October 2022
October 2022 was a very nice Fall month for Galeton. The foliage was the nicest in years. By mid month Indian Summer had arrived. The mornings for the most part were cool and many frosty mornings. I recorded a cold 22 degrees on the 30th. The first Fall frost was on the 10th with a 31 degree reading. West Pike had 30.6 on the 3rd.
Lawn mowing kept on full tilt all month. Perhaps it will continue until Thanksgiving or later. The average high temperature is 57 degrees and the average low is 37 degrees.
I measured 1.04″ of rain for the month. Last year the reading was 5.14″ Normal rainfall is 3.78″ This year was the lowest rainfall recorded in October since 1994. That year the amount was 0,93″.It is a very dry year thus far. Pine Creek is about the lowest in my memory. It will be quite some time before the lake will be full of water.

McKean County Fair Association Seeks Race Promoter to Lease Track
The Race Must Go On
McKean County Fair Association Seeks Race Promoter to Lease Track
Smethport, Pennsylvania – The annual fair has been a long-standing tradition in McKean County, dating
back to 1905 when a group of individuals banded together, raised funds by selling stock, and
constructed the first buildings on the fairgrounds. In addition to the structures where farmers could
display their produce and animals at the fair, a racetrack was also built during this time. In October of
that year, the first ever race took place on the newly constructed track, drawing in numerous spectators.
While so much has changed over the last 117 years, one thing has remained the same- the racetrack
located at the McKean County Fairgrounds is a popular venue among drivers and spectators alike.
However, in 2022, the track sat empty with no races being held.
“As a group, we are extremely disappointed that we were not able to secure a lease contract this year,”
said Tanya Okerlund, McKean County Fair Association President. She continued, “With the amount of
support that the races receive, we know that the community is disappointed as well.” The last race
season was run by J&K Motorsport Promotions in 2021, who chose not to renew their lease.
The Association acknowledges the need for improvements to the facility and has been actively seeking
grant funds over the last year without success. Christy Burkhouse, Treasurer for the Association noted,
“We are continuing to apply for any qualifying grants that are available to us but are also in the
beginning stages of planning a capital campaign to raise funds. This will obviously take an extended
amount of time and we hate seeing the track sit empty.”
The Association is now searching for a new race promoter to lease the track for the upcoming race
season. All interested parties are encouraged to contact the Association via phone at 814-887-5361,
email at mckeancountyfair@gmail.com or reach out to Okerlund directly at 814-598-2919.
