Edward G. Harrier, 72, of 3542 Carey Hollow Rd., Allegany, NY passed away peacefully Saturday (January 20, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital with his family present at his side.

Born February 6, 1951 in Olean, he was the son of Henry and Evelyn Dutton Harrier. On August 10, 1985 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany he married Bonnie Boser who survives.

Ed joined the US Army at the age of 17 and served two enlistments during the Vietnam era, first from 1968 to 1970, and after nine months, a second from 1970 to his honorable discharge in 1973.

He worked as a machinist for Dresser Rand Co., retiring after 42 years.
Ed was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 and was a dedicated part of its ritual team. He enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. He loved passing the time woodworking in his shop. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

His grandchildren loved spending time with their Papa and will truly miss him, and his loss will be felt deeply by his family and friends.

 Ronald E. Wilcox, 53, of 1134 Promised Land Road, Portville, NY passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Olean General Hospital. 

 Ron was born May 23, 1970 in Olean and was the son of Paul E. and Donna R. Dikeman Wilcox.

 Ron attended Portville Central School.  He drove long haul truck for a number of businesses including over the road for Cannon Express, Cargo Transport, NBS and Jaylor Trucking.  Ron was a bartender at Randy’s Up the River, City Limits, Rumors and The Press Box.  He drove taxi and he worked at the Pepsi Plant, Coach USA, Strohmans and Great Lakes Cheese.  Ron was the founder of  his own business Advance Detail and Wilcox Services selling the business after 20 years.   More recently he worked at Empire Cheese in Cuba before going to work at Baer’s Auto Inc as a traveling salesman.

Ron was the “Volunteer Coordinator” at Chestnut Hill Cemetery where he did fundraising and organized cleanup events to help maintain the cemetery.  He enjoyed spending his Sundays at the Bradford Speedway where he was a spectator, driver, pit support and a flagman.  Ron loved life and he had a giving heart and a green thumb.  He enjoyed flying kites, gardening, aquariums, and his pet dogs.  Ron supported his community, Humanity, The Westons Fire Department and better treatment of our nations veterans. 

Charles J. Uhl, 94, of Old Kersey Road, Kersey, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was born January 13, 1930 in Kersey, son of the late Charles and Josephine Kerr Uhl.  He was a lifelong resident of the area.

Along with his sister, Gertrude Hippchen, and his brothers, Thomas and James Uhl, he was part owner of the business, Ayrshire Dairy Farms which was known for the “Big Cow” from 1945 until 2002.  Charles retired after 58 years of commitment to the farm.

On October 3, 1964 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Juanita Wissinger, who survives.  They were happily married for 59 years.

Robert Charles Dilks Sr, age 90, of Warren, PA died peacefully Sunday, January 21 surrounded by his family at Kinzua Healthcare. 

Bob was born March 6, 1933, in Barrington, New Jersey, the son of Madeline Sodwith and Gerald L. Dilks, Sr. A 1950 graduate of Haddon Heights, New Jersey High School he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Villanova University in 1959 and an MBA from Duquesne University in 1968. He was a Staff Sgt with the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment, he was stationed in the Republic of Panama where he hiked with friends from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

Bob arrived in Warren in 1962 working for Bell Telephone where he was the Warren office manager.  He then met Sally (Dahl) Kasper who he ultimately married and raised their two boys with.  He left Bell to join Charles R. Tranter to form Tranter & Dilks, a public relations and advertising firm. Later he opened Dilks Communications which he maintained until his retirement in the mid-nineties.

He was a former member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Warren, served as an officer of the Holy Name Society and a lay lector.  Bob enthusiastically served as a member of the Advisory Council for Journalism and Mass Communication for the President of St. Bonaventure University and taught as an adjunct professor in Public Relations at the University of Pittsburgh – Bradford for several semesters.

While in Warren he was past president of the Warren County Chamber of
Commerce, 1980-81, a tutor for the Warren County Literary Council, past active member of Players Club and the Kiwanis. He had also served as member and chairman of the Warren Zoning and Hearing Board and had been Executive Director of the Kinzua Dam Vacation Board and the Route 219 Association. He created and published the Alleghenies Magazine and created Alleghenies Way – The Game.

Bob was part of the group leading the charge of the creation of modern version of Heritage Point in Crescent Park, adding a fourth flag honoring the Seneca Nation along with the since removed Bird Stone Monument.  Due in large part to these efforts, he was adopted into the Seneca Nation Bear Clan on May 23, 1987. His given Indian name was Hine Day (The Leader). He continued to be active with the Chief Cornplanter Descendants Association and was instrumental in getting the Cornplanter Monument replaced at the Corydon-Riverview Cemetery.  He felt his work with the Seneca Nation was among the most rewarding.

Barton M. GREELEY, Sr., 98, of Austin, PA, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Wellsville Manor Care Center, Wellsville, NY.  

Born February 18, 1925, in Austin, he was the son of Max C. and Blanche Purdy Greeley.  On February 28, 1948, in Austin, he married the former Arlene Harrier, who survives.  They celebrated their 75^th wedding anniversary in 2023.  

A 1943 graduate of Coudersport High School, he was a World War II Veteran, serving honorably with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre.  

He was employed by National Transit walking pipeline 80 miles a week from Woolrich to Betula.  He was then employed by Sylvania in Emporium, Austin Area School District as a custodian, and as President of Max Greeley and Sons, Inc. in Coudersport.  

He was a member of Austin VFW Post #7810 and the former Austin United Methodist Church.  

Mavis A. “Allie” FRANCE, 81, of Belfast, NY, died Sunday, January 21, 2024 in her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.  

Born November 8, 1942, in the Thompson Maternity Home, Belmont, she was the daughter of Clifford Wayne and Alice R. Thornton Magee.  On January 14, 1961, in Belfast, she married Ceylon M. “Bud” France, who predeceased her on May 4, 2009.  

A graduate of Belmont Central School, she earned her nurse’s aide certification from Cuba Memorial Hospital.  She was employed by Motorola and retired from Belfast Central School as a custodian after 22 years. 

Allie enjoyed square dancing with the Friendship Swingers, gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family and her friends.  

Mary B. Sives, 70, of Bradford, PA passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

She was born on October 17, 1953 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Erving and Lilian Hart Priest.

She was a graduate of the Bradford Area High School.

She was the widow of Emerson Sives who preceded her in death.

Mary loved being around people and enjoying life to its fullest.  Those that knew her know that she was an adventurous person who loved to celebrate the holidays.  Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a longtime employee of the Bradford Manor until her retirement.

William C. “Bill” Henry, 87, of Warren, PA, formerly of Lakewood, FL, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lori Ann Roys, 55, of Port Allegany, PA passed away unexpectedly on Monday (January 22, 2024) at home in Port Allegany.

She was born May 18, 1968 in Bradford, the daughter of Betty Gene Springer, and was raised by her grandparents, Gene and Betty Sherwood. On January 28, 2000, in Port Allegany, she married Daniel L. Roys, who survives.

Lori was a 1986 graduate of Port Allegany High School. She was a homemaker tending to the needs of her family.

Lori enjoyed playing “Mrs. Claus” for the Christmas season alongside her husband, filling the role of “Santa Claus” every year.  She also enjoyed watching many children as a sitter for many years.  She also enjoyed her three fur babies that she leaves behind, “Puddles”, “Remington”, and “Baer”.

Mark Thomas Crowley, 69, of Eustis, FL, previously of Bolivar, NY, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 after a lengthy illness with his family at his side at the Pines of Olean. 

Born February 9, 1953 in Cuba, NY, he was the son of Robert and Mary Congdon Crowley.

 He was a graduate of Bolivar Central School, Class of 1972.  While in high school he was known as the class clown, always bringing humor to any situation. Active in sports, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track, and was a star high jumper in track.

After high school, he started working as a welder for Clark Brothers in Olean, New York.  From there he moved to Ohio and later to Connecticut, welding on nuclear submarines.  Mark and his loving companion, Dot, then moved to Eustis, Florida where he began driving cross-country trips for Service Trucking Company, until his retirement.
