Statement Regarding the Loss of Charles “Chuck” Jessup
Allegany County mourns the loss of former Legislator Charles “Chuck” Jessup and wishes to express sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chuck. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chuck’s wife Linda and the Jessup family.
Earlier this year, Allegany County adopted a resolution recognizing and thanking Mr. Jessup for his extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Allegany County.

Cory J. ECK, 41, of Wellsville, NY, died Thursday, August 1, 2024 in his home.
Born February 24, 1983, in Olean, he was the son of Michael T. and Barbara A. Bellamy Eck. A graduate of Scio High School, he was employed by Michael A. Roeske, Land Surveyor.
He also detailed cars and did yard work. Cory enjoyed riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes.
Surviving are: a son, Lennox; two siblings, Christina (Anson) Beckwith of Bolivar and Clayton (Beth) Eck of Wellsville; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Friends may call at OLNEY-FOUST Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, with a Memorial Service following at 6:00 PM. Rev. Carl Kemp will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio. Cremation was at Olney-Foust Private Crematory. Memorials may be made to ACASA, 3084 Trapping Brook Road, Wellsville, NY 14895 or SPCA serving Allegany County, P.O. Box 181, Belmont, NY 14813.

The Port Allegany Rotary Club welcomed Borough Manager, Jeremy Morey, at their regular weekly meeting held Thursday at the Moose Lodge. Morey gave the club an update on the Town Square project and invited the club to participate in the Grand Opening Ceremony to be held August 22nd at 5 p.m. on the Square. The original Gazebo was a gift from the Rotary Club to the Borough and was dedicated on August 22nd, 28 years ago. There will be a short ribbon cutting ceremony followed by live music in the Gazebo.

The Rev. Todd Lamer, pastor of Keating Summit Church, will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Keating Summit Methodist Church.
Jim passed away on July 17, 2024.

Richard D. Barber, 63, of Roulette, passed away Thursday (August 1, 2024) at UPMC Williamsport.
He was born December 4, 1960 in Port Allegany, the son of Maynard and Joyce (Schoonover) Barber. On September 14, 2019, in Keating Summit, PA, he married Tina M. Reisinger, who survives.
Mr. Barber was a graduate of Port Allegany High School Class of 1979 and was employed at several locations over the years. His last employement was at Potter Pak in Roulette.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing darts.

Ann D. Longo, 77, of Bradford, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Bradford Manor.
She was born on June 23, 1947 in Bradford; the daughter of the late Alfred and Dorothy Doughman Ekas.
She was a 1965 graduate of the Bradford Senior High School. She was also a 1969 graduate of the Lockhaven State College; where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
On June 21, 1969 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church; she married Victor A. Longo who preceded her in death on November 14, 2019.

Joseph A. “Joe” “Patsy” Scida, 99, of Powers Avenue, Johnsonburg, passed away Sunday evening, August 4, 2024, at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Johnsonburg on January 1, 1925, a son to the late Vincenzo “Jim” and Adeline Papa Scida. On August 7, 1946, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Kathleen M. “Kay” Hocking, and she survives.
A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Joe was a 1943 graduate of Johnsonburg High School, a member of Holy Rosary Church, VFW, American Legion post 501 and had been a past member of East End Hose Co. and the Prince of Piedmont Club. He loved spending time with is family and grandchildren, tending to his gardens, fishing, canning and enjoying his wine and Italian meats.
Joe was a WWII Navy Vet serving as a LCVP driver at Omaha Beach, transporting soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division of the Us Army or “The Big Red One”, making multiple trips from the LST ship to shore before he was wounded aboard his boat. After he was wounded, healed and rehabilitated, he remained in the Navy in the European Theater until his discharge in 1946.

Diane L. Glintz, of 79 Kincaid St., passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo following a brief illness.
Born March 1945, she was the daughter of Herbert H. and Velma (Smith) Rhoades of Bolivar who preceded her in death in 1986 and 2005 respectively.
Diane married Richard “Pete” Glintz in August 1969. Pete preceded Diane in death in February of 2005. Diane is survived by two sons, Michael Glintz of Morristown, NJ, and Steven Glintz of Alexandria, VA, and a sister, Janice Rhoades of Spencerport, NY.

Bruce E. DeWalt, 69, of Bradford and winter resident of Kissimmee, FL passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
Born February 26, 1955, in Spring Valley, IL, he was a son of the late Merlin and Dorothy (Landers) DeWalt. His family relocated to Phoenix AZ when Bruce was very young. He attended schools in Arizona.
On May 9, 1987, he married his wife Diane at Encanto Park in Phoenix.

These courses are part of five associate degrees: Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Liberal Studies, and Social Sciences. These courses are perfect for recent high school graduates, mid-career adults seeking to advance in their career or begin a new one, and even current eligible high school juniors and seniors who want to earn college credits while still in high school. This program is designed to be affordable at 70% less than the average tuition at brick-and-mortar institutions. Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent pay $185 per credit and receive guaranteed admission. Current high school students pay $60 per credit. CRCF accepting Mental Wellness Fund grant applications through September 1
The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Mental Wellness Fund in Cattaraugus County.
Applications will be due by September 1.
The online grant application can be accessed at cattfoundation.org/grant-seekers/grant-opportunities/.
Grants from this fund support programs and services provided by nonprofits that support the mental wellbeing and mental health of residents in Cattaraugus County.
Grants typically range from $500 to $1,500 but up to $4,000 may be available for special projects, particularly those that impact vulnerable and/or disadvantaged individuals.

Coudersport Rotary Club was pleased to welcome Mike Delp of the Pennsylvania State Police at their July 29, 2024, meeting at A&W West End Grill.
Trooper Delp spoke about the occurrence in Potter County of criminal incidents, DUI and drug-related arrests, new troopers coming to our county, burglaries, vape pens, and much more.

Alvin H. Brown, 77, Of Emporium, PA
Alvin H. Brown, known affectionately as Al, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the age of 77 in Emporium PA from a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on June 22, 1947 in Ridgway, PA. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a respected member of his community. He attended Emporium schools and graduated from Cameron County High School in 1965 before furthering his education at Penn State, Dubois.
Al loved many things in life: family, outdoors, service of others, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Hathaway in November 1966. She was the love of his life and partner in many great adventures. Together, they traversed the US as members of the Goldwing Road Riders Motorcycle Group which he served two years as PA state Director.
