Nearly $2.7 million in grants have been awarded for a variety of municipal equipment and infrastructure projects in Cameron, McKean and Potter counties, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) and Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) announced today.

“These grants are crucial to helping our communities make the necessary investments to best meet the needs of their residents. From water line improvements to road paving and maintenance equipment to public safety, each of these projects will help ensure the health and well-being of our citizens,” Causer said. “I was pleased to advocate for these important local initiatives and bring this funding to our region, and I commend our local officials for making these projects happen.”

“With so many hard-working families struggling with ever-rising costs and inflation, I am pleased to have played a role in securing this highly competitive funding for the citizens I serve in Cameron, McKean and Potter counties,” said Dush. “These grants are important investments in the safety and quality of life for residents of all ages. Portville, NY – October 22, 2024 – “Too Many Detectives at the Murder Mansion” written by Ian McWethy and published by Stage Partners, is playing at the PCS Auditorium on November 15 & 16, 2024. Showtimes are Friday, November 15 at 7 pm and Saturday, November 16 at 2 pm and 7 pm. The PCS Drama Club cast and crew contains approximately 40 students in grades 7-12 led by director Cheri Maxson. Miss Amanda Burdick is the stage manager and Mrs. Lynne Weimer is the Theater Boosters president and house manager. Over a dozen adult volunteers make up the production team.

Commenting on the upcoming production, Maxson said, “Bringing this brand-new play to our stage has been a wonderful experience. The students have had a lot of fun learning about iconic detectives, like Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade and Miss Marple. The more modern characters like the Scooby Gang and Batman have given us flashes of hilarity and true creative inspiration. Being able to find those comedic moments where each actor can shine has been such a great learning experience. This production is a parody that will have the audience laughing throughout the show. We’re really excited to bring it to our stage.”

Job Announcement: Outreach and Communications Advisor

The Potter County Conservation District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Outreach and Communications Advisor. The position will be full-time (37.5 hours/week) with a probationary period of six months. The purpose of this position is to oversee the general planning, development, and direction of all communications of the District. Coordinate programs, social media, news releases, and other forms or publication to build and sustain a positive image of the District in the public. The qualified applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to obtain required clearances, and a valid driver’s license. Candidates are preferred to have a degree in an Environmental Field (Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, etc.), Communications, Public Relations, or another related field. The position involves extensive contact, both by phone and in person, with a variety of District customers and partners. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills, a pleasant disposition, be courteous, and detail oriented. Tasks will be assigned and supervised by the District Manager per program needs.

Perfect conditions for runners in the Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run.  The event this year included a new section through the Elk State Forest eliminating a conflict with the CCOYA youth mentored hunt event.  More than 50 competitors took to the trail Saturday. 

Taking home top honors in the 50k were 20 year old Benjamin Kauffman from Lykens in a time of 5:33:12.  Cleo Bradybaugh from Kane was the first woman to cross the finish line at 5:47:20.

The top finisher in the 25k race was 23 year old Raymond Esh from Lykens with a time of 2:41:30.  The first woman to finish was 43 year old Jessica Goss from Milroy in a time of 3:20:49.  The mother son team of Nancy and Eric Vierhaus from California returned to compete in the 25k.  The Emporium natives have competed yearly.

Top finisher in the 12k was 50 year old Chris Lyon from Cory in a time of 1:09:45.  The top female competitor was 51 year old Valerie Van Breugel finishing in 1:10:25.  The 12k saw a mother daughter duo including the youngest competitor 10 year old Isabel Les from Austin.  A husband wife team from Texas also competed in the event.

This is the 12^th year for the race which is used to promote local businesses who provide the awards and swag for the events.
