Bradford, PA/Olean, NY – The Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, oncology practices at the Barry Street Health Center and BRMC, have received re-certification by the QOPI® Certification Program, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology (the Association) and an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (the Society). The QOPI® Certification Program builds on the Society’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®), providing a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care.
Mona Kay Sullivan, 85, of Lewis Run, PA.

Mona Kay Sullivan, 85, of Lewis Run, passed away peacefully after a long illness, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born on May 22, 1939, in Custer City, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth L. and Ida D. (Breese) Torrey. She was a 1957 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On March 22, 1961, at St. Mary’s of the Angels Church in Olean, she married James F. “Jim” Sullivan, who preceded her in death on January 4, 2022.
Kay was employed at McCourt Label, later as the Tax Collector for Lewis Run, Secretary for Lewis Run Boro, and at School Street Elementary in the Latch Key before and after school program. She retired in 2020.
Basic Sign Language Course Offered!

How many times do we encounter hearing impaired people and wish that we could communicate with them? As we age, we gradually lose some of our hearing. Sign language can help. Also, mothers of pre-lingual children can use sign language as a tool with their little ones. Here is your opportunity to learn basic sign language that could help you communicate with someone you care about.
The course will cover beginning sign language, including the alphabet, conversational phrases, and a variety of commonly used signs. The instructor will customize the curriculum based on how participants plan to use sign language. Basic facts essential to the correct use of the language will also be addressed. A dedicated student could learn as many as 800 signs, understand signing/interpreting rules, basic deaf culture, and medical situations that cause deafness and loss of hearing.
Basic Sign Language, taught by Sheri Greene, is scheduled for Mondays, February 24 – March 31, 2025, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Council’s office at 5 Water Street, Coudersport. Mary Louise Burns passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025. She was born on November 25, 1935, in Sheffield, PA.
She was the daughter of Roy and Mary Sversko Blum. She was a lifelong resident of the Brookston/Sheffield area and was a graduate of Sheffield High School. She loved her family and always thought of others and put everyone’s needs above her own. She made it a point to keep in touch with many friends and family members throughout her life. Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Larry, whom she married on August 24, 1957, son, Robert Burns, daughters, Linda Young (Jeff), and Cindy Wargo (Dave), three grandchildren, Sara Pittock, Andrew Wargo (Elizabeth), Kathryn Karney (Louis Haas), three great grandchildren, Ryan Wargo, Robert Wargo, Iris Haas, nephew, Christopher Blum, brother-in-law, Fred Burns (Lewelyn), several nieces, nephews, cousins.
PITT-BRADFORD TO HOST ANNUAL STUDENT, FACULTY & STAFF RECITAL

BRADFORD, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford next week will hold its annual Student, Faculty & Staff Recital, which showcases the creativity and passion of several members of the campus community.
The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall. The hour will feature several different kinds of performances, from musical mashups to poetry.

Born on July 9, 1958, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Jack D. and Henrietta (Herbstritt) Llewellyn. Ward attended school in Ohio.
Ward started dating PJ in 1984, then on July 16, 1994, in Limestone, he married Phyllis Jean (Moore) Lewellyn, who survives.
Ward was employed at the Bradford and Olean Perkins Restaurant. He worked at Bradford Electronics and was a route driver for DHL.
Ward was a member of the Eagles Club. He loved to play in pool leagues and shot for the Edge Team. He was also a member in local bands like Not A Clue and Gamblers.

He was the son of the late Joseph J. and Catherine V. Babcock Dangelo. David was a lifelong Warren Co. resident. He was a 1979 graduate of Warren Area High School. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed karaoke, going to car shows, riding his four-wheeler. He was a real animal lover.

He was born on January 9, 1948 in St. Marys, a son of the late Robert and Valeria Jacob Murray.
David was a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School, class of 1965. He worked in the parts department for many years at Elk Motors and then Stoltz. An avid sports fan, Dave could often be found cheering on the Oakland Raiders and Penn State football. Always a true gentleman with his kind demeanor and caring heart, he was a dedicated and loving dad and father-in-law.

On December 31, 1974, in Prattsburgh, NY, he married Katheleen M. Hand, who predeceased him on February 8, 2020. A graduate of Prattsburgh Central School, he attended truck driving school. In addition to driving truck, he worked as a certified nurse’s aide and did architectural drafting.

PUC to Investigate Pike County Light & Power’s Request to Increase Natural Gas Distribution Rates

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by Pike County Light & Power (PCL&P) for natural gas distribution service in portions of Pike County.
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate PCL&P’s proposal to increase its annual operating revenues for natural gas distribution service by approximately $905,900 (35.8%). Under the proposal, the average bill for a residential customer using 80 Ccf per month would increase from $135.78 to $196.08 per month (44.4%).

ARREST DETAILS Officers investigated an incident where a female victim reported to Bradford City Officers that a known male had entered her home while she was sleeping and laid down in bed with her, awaking her. The victim also stated that while in her home he did indecently expose and assault her.
Officers interviewed Wackwitz and an arrest was made. Wackwitz was arraigned before District Judge Richard Luther who set bail at $50,000 straight. BRADFORD MAN CONVICTED OF INDECENT EXPOSURE

District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that, following a one day jury trial at the McKean County Courthouse, Michael Basil WINSTON, of Bradford, was convicted of Indecent Exposure. Officer Terry Fuqua of the City of Bradford Police Department charged WINSTON after investigating a report that, on June 3, 2024, WINSTON exposed his genitals to a female. The victim reported that WINSTON pulled his pants down to expose his genitals and asked her to have sex with him. Assistant District Attorney Gregory A. Henry prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
