At 2:02 PM on Monday, Lawrenceville, Tioga dispatched to 70 Junction Crossroad for a house fire with an explosion. One person is reported to have burns to the legs. Everyone is out of the house. Responders report a small fire. Millerton, Lindley & Gang Mills were dispatched but now told to hold in quarters. Fire has been contained with fire extinguishers.

On November 6th, 2022, at approximately 9:22PM, Cuba Police arrested Brian A. Rought (26) of Cuba. Rought was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon 4th (Misdemeanor). Rought was processed and released to appear at a later date. This investigation stems from a report of a large fight in which knives and a firearm were alleged to be displayed. Rought is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Wellsville Police arrested Alexander W. Cavanaugh, age 25 of Wellsville, charging him with Burglary 2nd (Class C Felony) and Criminal Mischief 4th.
The charges stem from an incident that took place on Madison Street in the Village.
Cavanaugh was processed, and arraigned before Town of Scio Justice Ames. Cavanaugh was committed to the Allegany County Jail on $50,000.00 cash bail or $75,000.00 property bond or $100,000.00 partially secured bond. Cavanaugh is due to appear in Wellsville Village Court on December 6th at 4:30 pm. Wellsville Police were assisted by the New York State Police.

At 12:20 PM on Monday, Wilcox Fire Dept. has been dispatched to a truck fire with a 2 acre brush fire. Kane dispatched for standby at Wilcox station. Johnsonburg also dispatched.

HARRISBURG – Working to increase the number of orphan wells being plugged in the Commonwealth, the General Assembly has passed and the governor signed into law new measures to help achieve that goal, said Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter), a leading advocate of the measure.
Act 136 of 2022 builds on a law Causer authored earlier this year creating a grant program for entities that plug abandoned wells. Under the new law, grants of $40,000 will be awarded for plugging wells with a depth of less than 3,000 feet, or the actual cost to the well plugger, whichever is less. Grants of $70,000, or the actual cost, whichever is less, will be provided for plugging wells deeper than 3,000 feet.
“We haven’t been making much of a dent in plugging the more than 200,000 orphan wells estimated to exist in the Commonwealth,” Causer said. “Some years, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is plugging as few as five. Increasing grant funds available for well plugging using federal infrastructure money should accelerate our well-plugging efforts, benefitting both the environment and our communities.”
In addition, Act 136 requires DEP to allow any Pennsylvania company to bid for a contract it will award for well plugging, regardless of the size of the company. A Pennsylvania company would be defined as a business that has its main offices or headquarters in the Commonwealth and conducts at least 50% of its business activities here, or one that will bid for contracts for plugging oil or gas wells and subcontract the work through a competitive bidding process.
Karen A. Tussey, 71, of Wellsboro, PA passed away early Sunday November 6, 2022 at Broad Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born January 13, 1951, the daughter of William H. and Beverly (Johnson) Tussey.
She graduated from Wellsboro Area High School. Karen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wellsboro, and enjoyed embroidery and word search puzzles.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and brother: Jay Tussey.
Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
Services will be private, she will be interred in the Wellsboro Cemetery.
Joye M. Singer, 83, of Brandy Camp Road, Kersey, PA died on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Penn Highlands Dubois after a lengthy illness.
She was born on August 5, 1939, in Kersey, a daughter of the late John and Frances Stenta Anderson.
On May 6, 1961, at Maria Lutheran Church, she married Michael Singer, who survives of Kersey.
Joye was a lifelong resident of Kersey and a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1957. She spent her time reading books and playing with her cats. Joye spent many summers planting and growing her garden with Mike.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Mike, she is survived by 2 sons: Robin Singer and his wife Virginia of Kersey, Dale Singer and his wife Sherry of Goldendale, Washington, a daughter, Michele Singer of Kersey, and 4 grandchildren; Eric Singer, Jeremy Heater, Brittney Higgins, and Zachary Heater.
Funeral Service and visitation will be held privately by the family.
Burial will follow at Ridge Cemetery.

Tracy D. Hunter, 55, passed away at her home in Kersey, PA on Monday, October 31, 2022.
She was born on May 9, 1967 in Calais, ME, a daughter of the late John and Sarah “Sadie” Cameron Hunter.
Tracy was a graduate of St. Marys High School and received her LPN degree in 1994 from Clearfield Vocational School. Throughout her career, she was employed at Penn Highlands Elk and DuBois, and most recently worked as a private duty nurse. Having touched the lives of many of patients with her kindness, gentle ways, and a smile that could light up a room, Tracy always made her patients feel special.
Tracy loved traveling, and never turned down a chance to take a trip with her dear friends, whom she especially enjoyed trips to Maine with. She loved spending time with her friends and their families, whom she’d grown close to over the years. She loved watching movies, listening to music, and cooking. She was known for her knowledge of trivia, and was fond of animals, especially her cats.
She is also survived by three brothers; Kelly (Cathy) Hunter, of Lisbon Falls, ME, Blaine (Anne) Hunter of Auburn, ME, and John Hunter of Houston, TX, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two special friends whose friendships she cherished; Sue Huey and and her family of Kersey and Brandy Robison of Ridgway.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents.
A Graveside Service for Tracy D. Hunter is being scheduled and will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
In keeping with Tracy’s love of animals, Memorial Contributions may be made to a local animal shelter.

Joseph W. Proske, 86, of Stonehedge Meadows Drive, Ridgway, PA passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 following a brief illness.
He was born on October 11, 1936 in DuBois, PA, a son of the late Wallace and Victoria Samanka Proske.
On June 4, 1966, he married Anne Werner Proske, who survives of Ridgway. Together they shared more than 56 years of love, laughter, and happiness.
Joe was a graduate of Luthersburg High School and then earned his undergrad, Master’s Degree, and PhD in Metallurgy from Penn State University. He retired from Kane Magnetics, and had also worked at Stackpole a number of years ago. He was a longtime board member of First Commonwealth Bank and also sat on the board of Symmco, Inc.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Joe loved spending time outdoors. He found solace on a walk through the woods, and also loved to shoot trap and skeet. For many years, he and his friends would charter a boat and spend the day fishing and reminiscing.
Most of all, he was a dedicated and kind husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Anne, he is survived by 2 children; Michael Proske and his wife Jennifer of Olney, MD, Nicole Proske and her husband Dana Wolfe of St. Marys; and by his 4 beloved grandchildren; Alexander and Rachael Wolfe and Olivia and William Proske.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother; James Wolfe.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph W. Proske will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Leo Magnus Catholic Church, 111 Depot Street with Fr. Justin Pino, Pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Krise Funeral Home in Ridgway on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM

Penn State Harrisburg, which had beaten Penn College 5-0 during the regular season, got its early lead by the 53rd minute before Sara Darlington, of West Chester, found the back of the net in the 68th minute on an assist from Cassie Johnson, of Richland. Darlington and Johnson then combined on another goal and assist, respectively, in the 83rd minute to close out the scoring.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) joined with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) to mark the start of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the 2022-23 winter heating season. This year’s LIHEAP season opens Nov. 1, 2022.
The PUC also encouraged consumers to #CallUtilitiesNow to explore a wide variety of utility assistance programs and other affordability options to help manage energy use and keep utility bills affordable during the coming winter.
“Working together, LIHEAP and various PUC-required utility assistance programs help hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania households stay connected, safe and warm,” said PUC Chair Gladys Brown Dutrieuille. “We strongly encourage families to apply for LIHEAP and #CallUtilitiesNow to explore all the available options.”
James E. Eaton, 79, of Warren, PA., died Friday morning, November 4, 2022, at Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA., after an extended illness. Jim was born in Warren, PA., on August 8, 1943. He was the son of the late Earl and Lulu Louise Love Eaton. Jim was a lifelong Warren and Clarendon, PA., resident. He was employed with the former National Forge Company as a Machinist for 40 years and was co-owner of Clarendon Water Works with his brother, Tom.Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing with his son and nephew, Tommy. He also enjoyed working on cars and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Goodwill Eaton whom he married on May 1, 1965, in Warren, PA.3 Daughters – Diane Eaton of Warren, PA., Christine Anderson and husband, Seven of Mt. Airy, MD., Elizabeth Imel and husband, James of Woodbridge, VA.2 Brothers – Thomas Eaton and wife, Diane of Clarendon, PA., William Eaton of Fayetteville, N.C.5 Grandchildren – Steven Anderson and wife, Dani, A.J. Anderson, Amanda Anderson, Ben Imel, Hannah Imel, 2 Great Grandchildren – Emalli & Charlie Anderson, several nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Michael “Jamie” Eaton who died September 5, 1990, a sister, Mary Hawk, a brother, Robert Richard Eaton.
