Henry Lush, June 2025 Weather Report
June 2025 may be recorded as a fairly normal June. The month started out with a few morning temperature readings in the 30′ ( 37 and 35) however for most of the month the morning temperatures were in the mid 50’s and 60’s. Afternoons were in the 70s and mid to high 80’s. . We did experience a “heat wave” from the 21st to the 25th with temperatures topping off in the high 80’s and low 90’s. This temperature trend is not unusual for June. Last year for the same week we had a “heat wave” too.
Some severe storms were predicted including a tornado watch but we missed all of that.
June rainfall was a normal 4.04″ even though we recorded rain on 15 days. That period of rain raised the question, “when will it ever stop raining”. Last year the rainfall was 3.72″. For the first 6 months of 2025 the rainfall total was 20.72″ which is about normal.
Pine Creek and the streams look good. The Berger Lake is full just in time for the fireworks. The borough crew did a great job getting trees out of the lake too.
Now we have July. July is the warmest month of the year. I have heard some of the “oldtimers” say “once the 4th of July is gone the summer is almost over.” That of course was before “climate change”.now we can enjoy another 5 months of mowing.

National Honors For Potter County Maintenance Team

A trio of Potter County employees have earned national recognition with a 2025 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties. Maintenance Supervisor Joe Kurtz and assistants Kevin Coates and Dan Foster qualified for the award based on innovation and excellence that have saved the county hundreds of thousands of dollars while improving working conditions. “The awards program shines a spotlight on the hard work and innovation happening in county governments,” said NACo President James Gore. “Potter County’s example of excellence will be held up as a model for other rural counties across the nation to follow.”
Seeds for the success were planted in 2021 when the commissioners authorized Kurtz to expand the department. His employees have since evolved from general workers to skilled laborers. Expenses of outside contractors have been reduced by an estimated 80 percent. At the F.W. Gunzburger County Office Building, the team recently renovated two outdated bathrooms in a hallway, saving the county an estimated $75,000; created a conference room/technology center for county and public use; renovated a section of the basement to accommodate relocation of the Domestic Relations Department, eliminating an expensive rental contract; and expanded the offices of the Planning, Community Development and GIS Department, among other improvements.

Bradford Area Public Library Celebrates Community Creativity Through Hands-On Programs

The Bradford Area Public Library (BAPL) is buzzing with creativity this summer as adult patrons come together through a series of community-inspired programs that celebrate art, connection, and collaboration.
Currently, local volunteers are busy crafting colorful granny-square blankets that will be raffled off this fall. “Many people have generously shared their time, materials, and talents—donating over 200 granny squares so far,” shared Janelle Nolan, BAPL’s Marketing and Adult Programming Coordinator. “The next big step is stitching them together, and thanks to our Fiber Arts group, that part will be easy. They’re a truly talented and enthusiastic team.”
Meanwhile, other community members are diving into the art of Origami. Participants have folded hundreds of paper bell flowers, which will soon be transformed into a chandelier-style mobile. Once completed, this three-dimensional art installation will brighten the library’s interior with year-round color.
