Orton E. Maynard, 94, of Park Avenue, Eldred, PA.
Orton E. Maynard, 94, of Park Avenue, passed away on Sunday (May 14, 2023) at the Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Born March 16, 1929 in Portville, N.Y., he was a son of Orton and Ethel Larabee Maynard. On Aug. 17, 1952, in West Clarksville, N.Y., he married Peggy Manning, who survives.
Orton grew up on Haskell Road prior to moving to Eldred in 1955.
Mr. Maynard was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He then spent his career employed by Clark Brothers, which then became Dresser-Rand and finally Ingersoll-Rand in Olean until his retirement in 1992.
He was a life member and former president of the Eldred Conservation Club, and was also a member of the American Legion Post # 887 of Eldred. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as woodworking and making lawn decorations.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 70 years are one son, Mike (Anne Bennett) Maynard of Eldred; a daughter, Sue Rounsville of Eldred; eleven grandchildren, Nickolas Maynard, Shawn (Nancy) Rounsville, Shannon Rounsville, Joshua (Sarah) Rounsville, Cody (Miranda) Rounsville, Amber Rounsville , Patrick (Kristy) Rounsville, Rosa Rounsville, Christopher Rounsville, Cayden Rounsville, and Irelyn Rounsville; eight great-grandchildren, Keaton (Haley), Aubri, Suzie, Kameron, Emily, Braidon, Brynn and Brax; as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Gracie.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dale Rounsville in 2022, as well as three sisters, Betty Hill, Evelyn Reynolds, and Dede Reynolds; and one brother, Bill Maynard.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
