Olivia C. “Missy” Hartman, 97, of 30 Kinzua Avenue, Kane, PA
Olivia C. “Missy” Hartman, 97, of 30 Kinzua Avenue, Kane, PA passed away Monday (Jan. 22) at the Lutheran Home in Kane, where she had currently resided. Born Feb. 9, 1926 in Chambersburg PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy (Hinkel) Crider. She married Merle R. Hartman in Chambersburg in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts, and then attended Penn State where she received a Masters degree in Theater Arts. She received her teaching certificate from Edinboro University. She taught art and theater art in the Kane Junior and Senior High Schools for more than 20 years, retiring in the early 1980’s.
Missy was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kane, where she was a member of the choir and the Women’s Circle. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Kane Garden Club, The Kane Studio Art Group and later the Kane Creative Arts League. She co-founded the Kane Players Theater Group and was a prior recipient of the Kane Chamber Citizen of the Year award. Missy also volunteered at the Friends Memorial Library.
She is survived by three sons, Curtis Hartman and Thomas (Nancy) Hartman, both of Kane and Steven (Joanne) Harman of Round Rock, TX; four grandchildren, Lynn Hartman of San Francisco, CA, Daniel (Maia) Hartman of Seattle, WA , Scott (Allison) Hartman of Austin, TX and Michael (Brittani) Hartman of Frisco, TX, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Thomas Crider.
Friends are invited to attend a vistation at the Cummings Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Kane, with the Rev. Carol Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
