O. June Kio, 93, of Chapel Ridge, Bradford, formerly of Eldred, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2023) in the Ecumenical Home in Bradford.
June was born on March 28, 1930, to George and Emma Nicklaus.
Her parents owned a dairy farm on Sartwell Creek Road in Burtville. It was there that she met the love of her life Roland S. Kio. They married on April 17, 1949 in Port Allegany. They lived to be married 71 years.
June worked at Kanters in Port Allegany after graduating from high school. She was also employed at Strohman’s Bakery, Westons Shopper City, and Eldred Division of Ethan Allen retiring in 1992 to travel the country with Roland in their motorhome. They eventually sold the motorhome and purchased a home in St. Cloud, Florida, and were snowbirds for 20 years.
June loved to crochet, play cards, do crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, make pies and other baked goods. Her friends at Chapel Ridge loved her storytelling, and she was quite entertaining. June was a wonderful storyteller. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
June is survived by three sons; George (Barbara) Kio of McKinney, Texas, Kenneth (Judy) Kio of Eldred, and Bradley (Ginger) Kio of Kenly, N.C.; one daughter; Gail (Jerry Kelley) Kio of Bradford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Steve Kio, Brenda Kio, Rachel Baker, Andrea Skaggs, Ashley Gore, Emily Kio, and Michael Kio, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Mary Marinik and Patty (Richard) Baker; and one brother-in-law Philip (Leah) Kio of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
June was predeceased by her husband Roland and seven sisters, Aurelia Reese, Hilda Buckowski, Edna Minister, Theresa Scalfaro, Helen Pransky and Ruth Roboski.
June was a member of the Eldred Senior Center, Duke Center United Methodist Church Women, The Red Hat Rebels, Keystone Chapter of the Eastern Star serving as worthy Matron several times.
Friends may call on Monday (Sept. 18, 2023) at the Duke Center United Methodist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Beth Rosler officiating. Burial will follow in Sartwell Creek Cemetery, Roulette.
The Phoenix Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct funeral services at the Church on Monday immediately prior to the start of visitation.
