North Country Voices will present a Christmas Choral Concert, A Light for All Nations! on Sunday December 7 at 3:00 pm at the Coudersport Alliance Church on Route 49 and on Sunday December 14 at 3:00 pm at the Pine Creek Valley Global Methodist Church in Galeton.
The theme of light is woven throughout the program, a light being brought into the world by the birth of Jesus Christ, who is a beacon of hope for all nations. Two choral suites, Carols of Western Europe and Carols of the British Isles from the International Carol Suites superbly arranged by Mark Hayes highlight the concert. Well-loved Christmas carols such as “Good Christian Men, Rejoice”, “Still, Still, Still”, “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “What Child Is This”, “Deck the Hall” and “Joy to the World” are included. The choral masterpiece, “Candlelight Carol” by the English composer and conductor John Rutter focuses on describing the nativity of Jesus, particularly the love of Mary for her son. The more contemporary music “Immanuel” by Michael Card contemplates the mystery of God in human form and the essence of Christmas is dramatically captured in the setting of “Breath of Heaven” (Mary’s Song) by Amy Grant and Chris Eaton. “The Work of Christmas” a beautiful, thoughtful, a cappella choral setting by Dan Forrest challenges us to live out the Christmas story beyond the Christmas Season. Lastly, “Let There Be Peace on Earth” emphasizes that a global peace on earth is achieved through personal peace, which then spreads to others. The piano accompanists are Chris Pepper and Cindy Smith, and the director is Gloria Richardson.
We hope that you will be able to join us as we reflect upon the Christmas Season while enjoying beautiful choral music performed by gifted musicians. There will be a free will offering and light refreshments will be provided. Both churches are handicapped accessible. It is our wish that our Christmas program, A Light for All nations will light up the lives of all who attend!
