Norman A. Lewis, 87, of Mill Hall, PA; A Port Allegany Native
Norman A. Lewis, 87, of Mill Hall, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg. Born on June 19, 1936, in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Flossie M. (Bessey) Lewis. On April 6, 1992, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, he married Joyce B. Keches, who survives at home.
Norman was a 1954 graduate of Port Allegany High School, growing up on the Brooklynside and a 1956 graduate of Behrend Center-Penn State where he earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Initially working for the Curtiss Wright Corporation in Quehanna, PA. He later worked at Penn Tran/Win Tron in Bellefonte/Howard and Wingate, retiring as a Senior Engineer in 2000 after 40 years of service.
Norman was a member of the Sartwell Creek Church in Port Allegany and later attended the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church. He also was a 20 year member of Sharon Lodge No. 598 F & A.M in Shinglehouse. Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and motorcycling. He loved to tinker with woodworking. Norman created many treasures for his family and if Joyce needed something made, he would make it. He was also a great problem solver. If you had a project and could not figure out the fine details, Norman was the guy to turn to.
After retirement, Norman and his wife built a cabin retreat home in the location of his beloved camp in Port Allegany, PA. Some of their most cherished years were spent on those grounds with their now departed furry companions, Ebony, Maggie, Brutus, Kyler and Friskie for thirteen years, after which they relocated to their home in Mill Hall.
Norman was preceded in death by former wife Jean Amunson Lewis and is survived by their children and their respective families: Norman’s son, Bradley (Beth) Lewis of Shinglehouse, their son, Ben (Sarah) Lewis and children; Bailey, Holden, and Reese; and their daughter, Britney (Chris) Kwolek and daughter, Kamila: Norman’s daughter, Cheryl (Ray) Gardner, their daughter, Amber (Michael) MacNamara and children; Maverick, Jade, and Blaire; their daughter, Cara (Joe) Houseal and children; Hunter and Henry: Norman’s son, Brian (Stefanie) Lewis of Bellefonte, their daughter, Ashley (Pete) Morelli and children; Bridyn Lewis, Caleb Morelli, and Gabriella Morelli; their son, Austin (Kendra) Lewis and children; Emma Pyle-Lewis, Isaac Lewis, and Olivia Lewis; their son, Andrew (Casey) Lewis and children; Ian Kontier and Adalyn Lewis: Norman’s son, N. Andrew (Robin) Lewis of Port Matilda, their son, Josh (Christie) Thompson and children; Carter, Madison Max, Avery, and Emery; their daughter, Jaclyn Thompson and her children; Drew and Cole; their son, Ethan (Becky) Lewis and children; Cooper, Rylee, and Walker. Norman is also survived by his wife Joyce and their daughter, Rachel Springstead of W. Virginia and her children; Caleb, Jonas, Sabrina, and Michael; Norman’s step-daughter, Lisa (Tim) DeHaas of Howard, their son, William DeHaas and his daughters, Emma and Sarah; their daughter, Holly (Heather) Alterio and their child, Lorelai: and Norman’s step-son, Robert (Kimberly) Gummo, Jr of Bellefonte. Norman will also be greatly missed by his dog, Tank.
Along with his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lister.
A public visitation will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 201 Spring St. Milesburg. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Alan Eckenroad officiating. Burial will be at Schenck’s Cemetery in Howard Township. Family and Friends will assemble at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church following the Committal Service.
