Nancy A. Luke, 92, of Wellsboro
Nancy A. Luke, 92, of Wellsboro, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at UPMC-Wellsboro. She was born on October 31, 1932, in Gettysburg, OH, daughter of the late Harry M. and Hazel A. (Reck) Luzena. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene E. Luke on June 7, 1952, and they have celebrated 72 years of marriage together.
Nancy was born and raised in Gettysburg, OH and moved to Wellsboro in 1964. Early on, she volunteered at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital then worked at the Green Free Library but is mostly remembered for her career as secretary at the Rock L. Butler Jr. High School, now Middle School, from where she retired after 20 years. Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wellsboro and sang in the church choir for 50 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Wednesday Morning Musicales and was always happy to attend musical performances and community concerts and programs. She played golf for many years, played bridge and euchre regularly, and had a fondness for collectibles. She was always up for a trip and/or an adventure and traveled with friends and family whenever the chance arose. One of her favorite destinations was Williamsburg, VA, often visiting 2 and 3 times in a year. Nancy was happiest when she was surrounded by family, cooking and baking and playing games, sometimes late into the night. She approached life with lots of love and a great sense of humor.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by sons: Malen (Hedy) Luke of Topeka, KS; Brian (Valerie) Luke of Arlington, MA; a daughter: Jill (Patrick) Maier of Wellsboro; a sister-in-law: Kay Girbert of Fishers, IN; grandchildren: Brock (Stephanie) Luke, Quinn (Riley) Gudakunst, Matthew Luke, Ian Luke, Kylie (Toby) Bluemel, and Shea (Ryan Moss) Maier, and great grandchildren: Kellan, Porter, and Luna Rose. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Iris & Fred Nickol.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects, Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 1-2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St., Wellsboro, PA 16901. A memorial service will follow at the church. After the service the family will gather in the Fellowship Hall of the church for light refreshments, and all are welcome.
