Mr. Kari P. “Finn” Karhio, 66, of Ulysses, PA
“beloved husband and father”
ULYSSES, Pa.—Mr. Kari P. “Finn” Karhio, 66, of Ulysses, PA passed away following a motor vehicle accident in Mills, on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Born on Saturday, April 20, 1957 in Pori, Finland, he was a son of Olli P. Karhio and Sinikka L. Orvokki Karhio Condon. Having been together since September 15, 2001, Finn married Yolonda J. “Lonnie” Somogyi on March 5, 2011 in Ulysses.
Along with his family, Finn immigrated to Canada and later relocated to the United States. He graduated from high school in New York State. He also attended college. During the Vietnam War, Finn served in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. While in the service, he enjoyed jumping out of planes.
Finn was employed as an X-ray technician in the gas pipeline industry. He was also a master carpenter, helping build many homes and businesses in the area.
He was a member of IUOE Local 112 and the Carl E. Hyde American Legion Post 963 in Ulysses. He loved riding his Harley, his side by side, anything to do with the great outdoors, and his Rottweiler, Max. Finn’s greatest love was his beloved wife.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Yolonda “Lonnie” Somogyi; a daughter, Kristen Karhio of San Diego, California; a brother, Leif (Carrie) Condon of Utah; and a good friend, Chad Bachert..
Finn was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Tiina.
In keeping with Finn’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Lonnie entrusted her husband’s care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
