Mona W. Pettit, 85, of 9367 Watts Road, Cuba, NY passed away with her loving husband and family by her side on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Cuba Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born on September 9, 1938, in Knights Creek, she was a daughter of Gerald and Ernestine Cornish Walden. On February 11, 1957, in High Point, North Carolina, she married her husband of 66 years, Robert C. Pettit, who survives.
Mona was the Valedictorian of Rushford Central Schools Class of 1957. She had worked at Whites Flower Shop in Cuba, Cuba Cylinder Gas Company, and later purchased the Cuba Dress Shop selling clothing until its closing in 1982. She then worked for Unscolinen & Co., but retired in 2001 from the Cuba Pennysaver.
She was an excellent seamstress and altered clothing for over 25 years. Mona enjoyed singing with the Olean Chapter of the Sweet Adelines and also sang and played piano and keyboard for the Walden Family Band.
She formed the Cuba Merchants Association in 1974 and was a member of the Cuba Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. For 19 years, she served on the Advisory Council for the Allegany County Office of the Aging. Family gatherings and holidays at her home were just some of the wonderful times she spent with her family.

Her In-Laws Patricia Walden, Jim and Kay Pettit, Patricia Pettit, Linda Rusk, Dave and Ellyn Pettit and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Victor P. Walden, James D. Walden, and David C. Walden, a niece Judy Burrows and two nephews Terry Walden and Jonathan Walden.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 4-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Deacon Frank Pasquale will officiate.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.
