Michael Scalzone, MD, MHCM Joins the Laurel Health Centers
Laurel Health is excited to announce that Michael Scalzone, MD, MHCM, has joined the Mansfield Laurel Health Center, located at 416 South Main St. in Mansfield, PA where he is accepting new patients with a focus on women’s health and wellness.
Dr. Scalzone is a board-certified gynecologist and brings 30 years of in-depth healthcare expertise to the team. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, he has spearheaded a diverse range of successful quality initiatives to improve operational safety and quality care. His vast clinical leadership experience includes executive oversight for both inpatient and outpatient care as the former Chief Quality Officer and Executive Vice President for Guthrie.
“Many people who seek care are worried, in pain, or having an issue that is impacting their ability to manage day-to-day. It’s very rewarding to receive a patient’s trust to manage their medical issues and help guide them through those difficult times,” Dr. Scalzone shares. “I have spent my entire 30-year career practicing in rural areas where there is a chronic shortage of providers. A major factor that led me to join this organization is Laurel Health’s dedication to using its resources to care for each individual according to their unique, personal needs.”
Dr. Scalzone earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ohio State University. He also holds a Masters in Healthcare Management (MHCM) from the Harvard University School of Public Health.
Throughout his career, he has headed health outreach programs, quality improvement projects, and statewide healthcare committees. Dr. Scalzone has served as a key board member for a host of regional and national organizations, including the Harvard University Workgroup on Physician Retention, ACOG National Ambulatory Practice Operations Committee, ACOG New York State Patient Safety & Quality Committee, and Steuben County Medical Society. He is also a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Prior to joining Laurel Health, he served as the Chief Quality Officer and Executive Vice President for Guthrie, chair of Corning Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Lieutenant Commander in the United States Public Health Services (USPHS) delivering medical care at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico.
He and his family have lived in the area for 25 years, and in his free time, Dr. Scalzone is an avid runner and outdoorsman who enjoys exploring this region’s beautiful communities.
