Maxine A. WATTER, 80, of Wellsville, NY, died Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Manor Hills Assisted Living, Wellsville.
Born April 12, 1943, in Huntington, Long Island, she was the daughter of Max and Tillie Urban Watter. A 1961 graduate of Half Hollow Hills High School in Long Island, she earned her BA in Art and English from Elmira College, MS in Art Education from Syracuse University, MFA and CAS in Synesthetic Education from Syracuse University, and MFA in Art from Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
Maxine was an Art Teacher at Pittsford Central Schools from 1967 – 1976, Assistant Art Professor at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA from 1978 – 1983, an Art Teacher at Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton in the late 1980’s, and was a lecturer at Marywood College.
After Maxine retired, she continued to teach through private lessons. She was a member of the international Zeta Omicron Chapter of Kappa Pi, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association, and attended Family Church Wellsville.
Her artwork was featured in exhibits in New York and Pennsylvania, and all the way to Texas.
She is survived by a daughter, Amanda (Stephen Caton) Silva of Wellsville; two granddaughters, Heidi and Piper; cousins, Irene, Rita, Joan, and Bill; and her cat, Kody.
She was predeceased by her parents, aunts, uncles, and a cousin. Services will be private.
Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.
