Marvin L. “Husky” Schatz, 86, St. Marys, PA
Marvin L. “Husky” Schatz, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Penn Highlands Elk with his family by his side.
He was born on July 21, 1937 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Charles and Loretta Nissel Schatz.
On July 1, 1961, at Queen of the World Church, he married Marilyn Vollmer Schatz, who survives. With a love story that began nearly 63 years ago, they’ve been together hand in hand ever since.
Husky was a lifelong resident of the area and retired from the former Stackpole FireProof after many years of service. With a great love for motorcycles, Husky enjoyed going for rides, never turning down the chance to go for a spin with one of his kids. With an interest in just about everything, one of his hobbies included building and flying RC airplanes. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He loved learning about and going for rides on steam trains, and always looked forward to taking a ride on the various trains throughout Pennsylvania. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and spending time at the family camp in Flower Valley.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by four children; Pam (Dick Cooney) Hasselman of St. Marys, Lori (Dave) Nussbaum of St. Marys, Charlie (Debi) Schatz of St. Marys, and Glenn (Tina) Schatz of Kersey; and by eight grandchildren; John Cooney, Michelle (Roy) Muccio-Krise, Tom (Lauren) Cooney, Jason (Jake Hill) Nussbaum, Lacy Nussbaum, Jarred (Kabrina) Schatz, Shelbie (Adam) Schlimm, and Jenna Schatz, and by 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Beverly Erich and Kathleen “Daisy” (Gil) Rowley, both of St. Marys, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Amy Schatz; a son; Duane Schatz; a granddaughter; Shannon Cooney; two brothers; Charles “Merle” Schatz and Milton “Hovie” Schatz, and by his twin sister; Marlene Pichler, as well as sisters; Christine Schatz, Thalia “Mickie” Huefner, Barbara Martini, and Charlotte Vollmer.
