Lois Cox Churchill, 86, Elkland, PA
Our mother, Lois Cox Churchill, died on December 15, 2023 after a long and full life.
She was born on September 4, 1937 to the late George and Mildred (Schlock) Cox. Lois graduated from Elkland High School, Mansfield State Teachers’ College and Alfred University.
She taught math at Elkland High School for over 30 years. She was an advocate for teachers and a mentor and adviser to students.
Lois was dedicated to her family and was well loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Richard Churchill; her daughter, Terri Churchill Monks; her son-in- law Timothy Monks and her brother Richard Cox.
Lois is survived by her children, Susan (James) Dorrance, Georgette Bennett, Christine Bryant and Mike (Sharon) Churchill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Hackett, Kay (Andrew) Kutz, Tess Monks, Tyler (Renee) Monks, Chad Halbrook, Richie (Kristina) Halbrook, Alexandria (Marty) Redder, Nick (Jesse) Gibney, Ella Churchill, Gavin Churchill, Mathew (Beth) Bryant and Andrea (Jackie) Bryant. Lois is also survived by twenty-seven great grandchildren.
She will be missed by all. In addition to her family, Lois loved having new experiences, her pool and garden, reading, Elvis and the color purple. She was an avid traveler and had visited over 60 countries on all seven continents. Lois was very involved in her community and from a young age was involved in service organizations, usually serving in a leadership role.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation of time or money to an organization which positively impacts the local community. The organizations which were most important to her were Goodies for our Troops, Elkland Area Community Library, Animal Care Sanctuary and Parkhurst Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Services will be held at Parkhurst Memorial Presbyterian Church, 302 W. Main St., Elkland, PA on December 19, 2023. Family and friends may call to the church from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM with Pastor Mike Denelsbeck officiating. She will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
