Lila Pepperman-Hewitt “beloved aunt”
Lila Pepperman-Hewitt, 99, of Coudersport, formerly of Coneville, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born on Saturday, August 8, 1925 in Coneville, she was a daughter of Thomas J. and Frankie Sprague Pepperman. She was married to Jack D. Hewitt, who passed away on February 10, 2017.
Lila was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. She was employed for many years as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture. After her retirement, Lila worked with her brother, Si Pepperman, in his auction business.
In her youth, Lila was a member of the United Brethren Church in Coneville and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coudersport. She was a talented organist, having played at many churches during Sunday services. She enjoyed bowling having belonged to a league in Coudersport. She loved to go shopping in Olean with her niece, Nan Pepper. Lila was always dressed to a “T”.
Lila is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Nan Pepper of Coudersport.
Lila was predeceased by her parents, her husband, five brothers, and four sisters.
Family and friends may call from 11am to 12 noon on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Donald Caskey of the First Presbyterian Church, Coudersport, officiating. Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lila’s name may be made to the Sweden Valley Manor Patient Activity Fund, 1028 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Lila’s family entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
