Cuba– Larry K. Runyan “Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather”
Larry K. Runyan, of 60 Spring Street, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, November 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on October 23, 1942, in Cuba, NY, he was the son of the late John A. and Winnifred E. (Lutzie) Runyan. On August 25, 1962, in Cuba, he married the love of his life, Karen E. Carpenter, who predeceased him on August 17, 2005. They shared 43 wonderful years together.
Larry was a 1961 graduate of Cuba Central School and proudly served his country as a Yeoman in Aviation Maintenance Administration with the United States Navy for four years.
After his military service, Larry managed and later became the owner of Carpenter’s Department Store in Cuba. He also worked as a draftsman at Acme Electric Corporation for over eight years. Later, he dedicated 29 and a half years to Cuba Central School as a school bus driver.
An active member of his community, Larry was a past member of the Cuba Fire Department and a proud member of both the American Legion Post 0655 and the Cuba Amvets Post NY 1. He also served as President of the Cuba Cemetery Association for a period of time.
Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved traveling to Myrtle Beach, cheering for his beloved Buffalo Bills, going to the Kopper Keg, drinking coffee, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his four daughters who meant everything to him: Kaldonna “Kelly” (PJ) Shaller of Cuba, Rhonda (Stephen) Saxton of Arkport, Karla (Shadd) Lee of Osceola, PA, and Cynthia (Kurt) Roberts of Friendship; as well as a sister-in-law, Mary (Ken) Horton of Cuba.
He was the cherished grandfather of twelve grandchildren — Quinn Shaller, Karlee (Eric) Brundage, Jordan Shaller, Emily (Ryan) Barber, Cole Saxton, Madison, Seth, and Anna Lee, Alex (Haley) Roberts, Huntyr (Henry) Sweeney, Taylor, and Logan Roberts — and great-grandfather to Braxton and Brinley Roberts, Lenna Brundage, and Vivian Gastineau. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby and James Runyan; a sister, Shirley Griffin; a sister-in-law, Jane Runyan; and a brother-in-law, Robert Griffin.
