Larry E. Shine, 79, of Keane Lane, Bradford, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Olean General Hospital surrounded by family.
Born October 30, 1942 in Bradford, he was the son of the late Clifford and Gloria (Collins) Shine.
On May 4, 1963 he married Sharon J. (Peterson) Shine who survives.
Larry attended Bradford Area High School graduating in1960. He also completed an apprenticeship under American School in Chicago IL. He then worked as a sheet metal worker for 35 years through Local #12 Sheet Metal Workers Union out of Pittsburgh.
Larry was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bells & Bows Square dancing club, Ridge Runners ATV Club, Bradford Mason Lodge F&AM, Enchanted Mountain Snowmobile Club, Moose Lodge #3000, Sons of American Legion Post 108, and the Eagles #2432. Larry loved playing the guitar and singing. He often entertained with his group Sunshine Band at Crook Farm and the Bradford Area Senior Center.
Larry enjoyed riding ATV’s and motorcycles with friends, snowmobiling and racing at Drum Racing, square dancing and listening to bands. He enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and friends for over 30 years at North East Family Affair Campground. He was well known by fellow campers for singing and playing his guitar
Larry and Sharon enjoyed their regular Friday night dinners and playing cards with friends. Larry was always ready to help friends with different projects and it was not uncommon for him to set up neighborhood car washes in his own driveway. Larry and his brother, Jack often did projects together. With their combined talent, there was nothing they could not do or accomplish to help people.
Larry always spoke fondly of childhood memories of his aunt May, teaching him his numbers and abc’s, and playing cards with grandma Lucy and Maurice. To many family and friends he was known as “The Agitator” because of his many practical jokes. Larry smiled with his whole face and did it often. He was known and loved by many around the community. He will be greatly missed.
Larry is survived by his wife Sharon of 59 years; sons Bruce (Michele) Shine of Holley, NY and Ken (Suzi) Shine of Raleigh, NC; daughters Laurie (Tim) Roslinski of Raleigh NC and Kelly (Bill) Shirkey of Dupont, WA; nine grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Harris, Cody (Rachel) Baxter, Sean Roslinski, Zachary Shine, Nikolas (Drew) Shirkey, Jordan McCalla, Kylee Shirkey, Owen Liszewski, and Liam Shine; one great-granddaughter Ansley Harris; and his special friends, Ken and Lynn Hogue, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jack Shine, Terry Shine and Danny Shine one great-grandson Brooks Harris; two brothers-in-law Bill and Martin Peterson; and one sister-in-law Lynette Bowen.
Family will receive friends on Saturday October 29, 2022, from 10 am to Noon at the Emanual Lutheran Church, followed by funeral services at noon. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
