Langworthy presented UAHS Nightingale Award
OLEAN, NY – Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), the healthcare system consisting of Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), presented Erin Langworthy, LPN, the fourth quarter Nightingale Award. Langworthy, a nurse in the practice of Joseph Staszel, MD, pain management and physical medicine, has been a nurse for almost 20 years.
“Erin is an outstanding nurse! She will go out of her way to do the very best for any patient. Whether that would be taking an extra minute or step to make sure patients are more comfortable, providing reassurance and talking them through any procedure. She’s an effective, compassionate communicator,” according to her nomination. “Erin gives all patients the utmost respect no matter what. As Erin’s co-worker, she is the type of nurse who reminds me of how as nurses we can truly make a difference in all our patients’ lives.”
The Nightingale Award is a result of nominations from medical providers and other team members throughout UAHS. The prestigious award is presented quarterly to one nurse who provides exceptional patient care, excels in patient and family teachings, creates an environment of efficient open communication with patients, as well as serving as a role model for peers.
UAHS named the highly coveted nursing award after Florence Nightingale, who laid the groundwork for the philosophy and underpinnings of modern-day nursing. Throughout Florence Nightingale’s career she displayed qualities such as integrity, nursing excellence, compassion, and service. Erin Langworthy, LPN, received the nightingale award because she exudes these qualities as a nurse within the organization.
Erin became a nurse after firsthand exceptional nursing care she experience after beating cancer at a young age. So, she decided to give back and in doing so, became a nurse with much of her nursing career being spent in family and internal medicine. She worked in Williamsville, NY and came home to the Olean area in 2013 where she worked for Dr. Amandeep Singh and Dr. Chahal at Olean Medical Group. Once Dr. Staszel’s new pain management specialty opened, she made the transition to UAHS in 2023.
“Dr. Staszel has been a wonderful doctor and teacher knowing I had never had experience in the area of his expertise,” said Langworthy. “A good nurse is reflected by the support of her doctor and support of her management.”
Langworthy, along with Linda Wilber, RN, George Walsh, RN, and Amanda Wehler, RN, the other 2023 Nightingale awardees, and the Golden Stethoscope physician recipients will be recognized at this year’s UAHS Pulse of the Community Gala which will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024.
“Patients are at the hub of all we do, the most important people of all. Respectfully, I treat each patient as if it was my own family,” added Langworthy.
