LA MARIMBA TO BRING SOUNDS OF LATIN AMERICA TO PITT-BRADFORD

BRADFORD, Pa. — The vibrant sounds of the marimba will fill the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at noon, when La Marimba will perform as part of the Pitt-Bradford Arts series. The concert is free and open to the public.
Known as “the wood that sings,” the marimba is the signature instrument of Mexico and Central America, often played at dances, festivals, and family celebrations. La Marimba offers audiences a fresh perspective on this tradition, weaving together lilting melodies, lively rhythms, and spontaneous improvisations.
The ensemble’s members have studied in Chiapas, Mexico, immersing themselves in the cultural roots of the instrument. Their performance highlights both the history and evolving artistry of marimba music, providing an experience that is both educational and entertaining.
“This program is a celebration of cultural tradition, and it promises to be a joyful and uplifting performance,” said Courtney Mealy, director of arts programming at Pitt-Bradford.
The concert is part of the 2025–26 Pitt-Bradford Arts season, which showcases professional artists in music, theater, literature, and the visual arts. For details on upcoming events, visit upb.pitt.edu/arts.
